    Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I am sure you are in the midst of preparing your holiday meal, but it is also the time to take a minute and reflect on the important things in life. I am so thankful for my five perfect grandchildren, three wonderful children, a fantastic daughter-in-law, delightful daughter-in-law to be and a very special son-in-law to be. However, the most important person I am so very thankful for is my husband. He is my rock.

    So enjoy your wonderful day, indulge in the sights, smells and food,  and be as happy as you can. It is a wonderful day.

  • Panthers tuning up for basketball season

    The Carroll County Panthers have two scrimmage outings on their calendar during this Thanksgiving holiday week in preparation for the opening of the 2010-11 basketball season next Tuesday.

    Head coach Carroll Yager hopes the scrimmages will help fine-tune his young team for the opening game on the road at Williamstown and the team’s home opener with Trimble County on Thursday, Dec. 2.

  • It’s great to reconnect with friends

    I think it’s good to reconnect.  For many years I had pretty much lost contact with friends from high school which was sad since we had been a very tight knit group of gals. Some of us were majorettes; some played in the band; some were cheerleaders.  Others, like me (who had failed miserably at playing the French horn) were just in the stands for every ball game and at Dog n Suds afterwards, packed into whatever family automobile available that night. Then we scattered and it was many years before we began to get together.

  • Construction on I-71 at Sparta until next year

    Local residents traveling to northern Kentucky and the Cincinnati area should be aware of possible travel delays. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 6 Office has announced that an asphalt overlay rehabilitation project has begun on the northbound side of Interstate 71.

    The 18-mile section of construction work is located between the vicinity of Exit 57 at Sparta in Gallatin County (mile-marker 57.9) and the I-71/I-75 interchange near Walton (mile-marker 77.7).

  • Council to create code enforcement board

    Carrollton residents who would like to appeal a civil citation issued to them by the city will soon have an additional opportunity to have their case dropped before it reaches circuit court.

    City council held the first reading of Ordinance 2010-16 Monday night, creating a code enforcement board. City attorney Nick Marsh said the board is being created because of a change in the Kentucky statute that now requires first through fourth class cities currently prosecuting nuisance code violations to have a code enforcement board. Carrollton is a fourth class city.
