  • Fricassee was 16th U.S. president’s favorite meal

Since this column falls just after President’s Day, I decided to continue with my topic from last week on focusing our former presidents Washington and Lincoln.

I mentioned in my previous column that Lincoln sometimes had a problem even remembering to eat. He ate when his wife, Mary, encouraged him, but was usually so engrossed in problems with politics and power, that he often forgot to eat unless it was put in front of him.

  • South spoils senior night, top Panthers 74-45

Carroll County seniors Travis Ellis, Evan Mefford, John Perry and John Walls took the court for their final home basketball game Tuesday, Feb. 14. Unfortunately, the evening did not end as well as the home crowd would have hoped, as the Panthers could not generate enough offense to keep up with powerhouse South Oldham (18-8).

The Dragons hit 11 3-pointers, while the Panthers (13-12) were shutout from long range, a major factor in South’s 74-45 runaway victory.

  • Gas price flucuations keep drivers guessing; Animal support hosts chili supper fundraiser

Is it just me or does buying gas make you feel like a gambler?

Two weeks ago prices at the pump were dropping — $3.08, 3.05, 3.03.

Every day it appeared to go down, but I kept watching those prices and hoping the odds would be in my favor and I could fill up for $3 a gallon.

Nope, didn’t happen. I wound up filling my tank at around $3.50 per gallon. Then  I drove till I was afraid the fumes would run out and filled up next at $3.23.

Two days later it was $3.06.
