    Now that Christmas is over and New Year’s is behind us, our thoughts quickly turn to the year ahead.

    The truth is January can be one of the most depressing months of the year. Credit card bills come in from all that overspending we did at Christmas, and winter is here, which means that we have very few days over the next couple of months that we can go outside and do the things that we like to do.

    Champions for a Drug-Free Carroll County meets at 11:30 a.m. in the community room, Carroll County Public Library.

    Lions Club meets at noon at Butler Park lodge.

    Carroll County Board of Education meets 5 p.m. in the high school media center.

    Carroll County High School football boosters meet at 6 p.m. at the high school media center.

    Narcotics Anonymous meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday at Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St.

  • Experience in Iraq helps Sullivan with ESL instruction

    When Kent Sullivan went to teach at a university in Erbil, Iraq, he never thought the experience would help him years later in Carroll-ton, Ky. However, in his role as district ESL coor-dinator, Sulli-van’s international experience helps him identify with students who need English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction.

  • One person killed in Gallatin crash

    One person was killed in a two-vehicle collision Friday, Jan. 17, on Hwy. 16 in Gallatin County. Kentucky State Police troopers responded to the crash after Boone County Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call around 2 p.m. Preliminary investigation shows that a Toyota Corolla driven by Linda Ruth, 59, from Glencoe, Ky., was traveling south on Hwy. 16 when the vehicle hit a slick spot in the road, according to a news release. The vehicle crossed into the north bound lane and was hit by a Chevrolet truck driven by Albert Moore, 37, from Verona, Ky. 

  • Damage to P’ville Park may lead to charges

    City of Prestonville commissioners agreed Monday night to take legal action against a dirt bike rider who allegedly caused more than $300 damage to the city park.

    During its Monday, Jan. 20 meeting, Mayor Billy Walker shared photographs of the damage with commissioners from earlier in the month, including some photos that were posted on a Facebook account.

    Megan Harris named to dean’s list at Union

    Megan Nicole Harris of Worthville, a student at Union College, was recently named to the school’s fall 2013 dean’s list.

    The dean’s list at Union is comprised of undergraduates who have completed at least 15 hours of graded work with a 3.33 grade point average, no grades of incomplete for the semester and no grades of C or below for the semester.

    Harris was one of 86 students who made the dean’s list at Union for the fall 2013 semester.

     

  • Date changes | Jan. 23, 2014

    Commodities distribution for Carroll County have been rescheduled for next week due to Tuesday’s snow. The regular commodities will be distributed Tuesday, Jan. 28 at Relevant Church. Senior commodities will be distributed Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Carroll County Senior Center on Sixth Street.

    Jefferson Community and Technical College presentation of its new campus plans will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24.

    Carroll County Community Development Corporation’s annual meeting was cancelled due to the snow Tuesday. A date to reschedule has not been set.
