A local and young entrepreneur proved so impressive that the national publication Turf Magazine published a feature story on him last month.

The multi-page magazine spread tells how DJ Carroll, a 2007 graduate of Carroll County High School, began his lawn care service in high school while playing football for the Panthers.

Since graduation, he has since been all business about growing his business.

On June 27, we had our third End-of-the-Month Meal Ministry from noon to 1 p.m. at Carrollton Christian Church at 310 Fifth St., in Carrolton, Ky.

The purpose of this ministry is to provide a home cooked meal to an individual or family that is not able to provide for themselves for whatever circumstance and free of charge. The response was wonderful. We did have 33 visitors to this meal and we were very excited to be able to feed them. The weather was wonderful, the fellowship was spectacular and the people that came and ate with us were blessings.

Regatta revelers on the Milton, Ky., side of the Ohio River were well-behaved, according to Trimble County Sheriff Tim Coons.

Coons said Monday that there were DUI arrests made by his staff and Kentucky State Police on State Hwy. 36 and U.S. 421 South, but there were no serious incidents among those camping on the riverbank.

Coons credits the quiet weekend to a smaller crowd than usual on the Milton side, and to the rainy, chilly weather on Saturday, July 4.

A felony rape case in Edmunds County, S.D., involving Brent McMahan, formerly of Carrollton, has been dismissed after he entered a guilty plea agreement to a misdemeanor charge of sexual contact without consent.

According to court documents from the Fifth Circuit Court, State’s Attorney Lynda Hento dismissed the felony rape charges against McMahan Friday, June 5 and he pleaded guilty to a class 1 misdemeanor charge of sexual contact without consent that same day.
