  • Raker-Buscher-Strautmann- Titkemeyer reunion planned 

    The descendants of Ernst and Mary E. Buscher Raker, Johann F. and Clara Buscher Strautmann and Henry M. and Marie E. Buscher Titkemeyer are planning to gather for a reunion picnic at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 27, at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Hwy. 36, in Hunter’s Bottom of Carroll County, Ky.

  • Family welcomes baby daughter, Baleigh Marie Brent

    Susie and Michael Brent of Carrollton announce the birth of their daughter, Baleigh Marie Brent, born Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky. She weighed 6 pounds 11 ounces and was 19.5 inches long.

    Also welcoming her home was 4-year-old big brother, Logan Kyle Brent.

    Maternal grandparents are Gary Rabourn of Turners Station and Rosey Meadows of Carrollton; maternal great grandparents are Bobby and Sarah Rabourn, Marjorie Rabourn and the late L.G. Rabourn.

  • Blood drive to be held at Relevant Church July 18

    Whether someone is among the 39 percent of the U.S. population with type O positive blood or the 2 percent with B negative, the American Red Cross is looking for eligible donors of all types to give blood this summer to help avert a shortage. All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients.

    Red Cross blood donations may be made, Tuesday, July 18, from 3-8 p.m. at the Relevant Church, 2505 Highland Ave. in Carrollton.

  • Setting measurable goals is key to success

    As an athlete – and yes you are an athlete if you are exercising – you want to train hard, practice hard and be the best you can be, correct?

    Do you find yourself making broad statements such as, ‘I want to lose weight, body fat or I want to put on a little muscle?’ Then I am sorry to be blunt, but those are not goals. These are, at best, a wish list.

    An effective goal deals with specifics, and it must have a deadline. Without those parameters, goals are powerless and not effective. They will not get you where you want to be.

  • Parks and Rec Soccer sigups | July 10, 2013

    Carroll County Parks and Recreation co-ed youth soccer league registration is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday, July 15 through Friday, July 26 at their office on the third floor of the courthouse. Extended hours will be held from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 17.

    The program is for children ages 2-11 as of July 31. Older children may be required to travel.

    Cost is $15 for U4 and U6 players (ages 2-5) and $25 for the other age groups. Additional siblings are $15 each.

  • Youth Soccer Camp July 22-26

    The fifth annual Carroll County High School soccer camp will be held Monday, July 22 through Friday, July 26 at the Carroll County Westrick Park soccer fields. Camp is for children from four years old through eighth grade. Camp will begin at 5:30 p.m. for all campers. Campers ages four and five will end at 6:30 p.m.; everyone else will practice until 8:30 p.m.

    The cost for four- and five-year-olds is $15, and the cost for ages six and up is $25.
