  • Guilty plea entered in Beach death

    A Carrollton man has pleaded guilty to lesser charges following the October death of Michael Beach, 27, of Carrollton.

    James Nathan Wilhoite, 24, pleaded guilty in Carroll County Circuit Court Monday to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter, a class C felony, from the original charge of murder. He also pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid, a class D felony; operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense within a five-year period; and second-degree possession of a controlled substance, a class A misdemeanor.

  • Panthers win All “A” for first time since 2005

    Carroll County’s fifth win in a row capped off a great week of basketball by the Panthers. Win number five brought the 8th Region All “A” title back to Carroll County for the first time since 2005. The Panthers defeated Owen County, 42-39, Monday, Jan. 27, at Eminence High School.

    “The boys played hard and listened,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “We had a detailed game plan for each of the games, and they followed the plans perfectly.”

    City EIP wins award

    The City of Carrollton Enterprise Incentive Program received the 2013 Economic Restructuring Initiative award from Kentucky Main Street at its conference held Jan. 15-17 in Frankfort. Carrollton Main Street manager Sam Burgess submitted the nomination and announced the win to Carrollton City Council Monday.

    The Carroll County Middle School project continues to move forward with bids to be opened on Feb. 6.

    There were 8-10 construction companies and about 50 people who attended the pre-bid meeting held earlier in the afternoon, Superintendent Lisa James, Ed.D., told the Board of Education at its meeting Jan. 23.

    On behalf of all the members of the Carrollton Fire Department, I am ecstatic to announce that for the second straight year we will be partnering with Carroll County Schools to bring our Fire Prevention Program back into the classroom. Building upon the success of last year, our firefighters are eager to begin working with the students and staff.
