  • Barn Blaze triggered by nearby brush fire

    A brush fire started by a property owner led to the total loss of a Trimble County barn Monday night.

    Firefighters from Bedford and Milton’s volunteer departments were called to the scene at 8:34 p.m., along with Trimble County Sheriff Tim Coons and troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 5, according to a KSP dispatcher.

  • Wilson indicted for faking evidence to avoid jail

    Karen Wilson, 47, of Warsaw, Ky. was indicted in Carroll County on two Class D felonies, criminal possession of a forged instrument and tampering with physical evidence. She was also indicted on a charge of second-degree persistent felony offender, according to court records.

    Wilson is being held without bond in the Carroll County Detention Center on the current indictment and a motion to revoke her probation for previous convictions.

  • Bedford citywide cleanup May 16-17

    The Trimble Banner

    Bedford City Commissioners voted Monday to have a citywide cleanup during the month of May.

    A Dumpster will be placed on the grounds of the Trimble County Middle School late Friday, May 15. Residents will be able to deposit trash in the Dumpster on Saturday and Sunday, May 16-17. It will be removed early Monday, May 18, to prevent any inconvenience to school personnel and students.

  • Sewing enthusiasts fill Butler Park

    Quilters, teachers, county agents and hostesses filled every empty room at General Butler State Park April 14 and 15, last Tuesday and Wednesday as they learned new quilting techniques.

    Teachers from Kentucky, Indiana, Nebraska and Texas came together to teach students from the surrounding area many different ways to piece and quilt comforters, clothing, bags, table runners and other items.

  • ArvinMeritor considers moving operations

    ArvinMeritor, Inc. issued a press release Tuesday afternoon announcing the company is considering outsourcing its machining operations and moving its assembly operations currently located in Carrollton to other facilities in Kentucky and Ohio.

    The company met with union officials of the United Auto Workers Local 1813 today to discuss the plans which will impact about 49 hourly positions, according to the release. A final decision will be made following further discussions with the union.

  • Alumni Banquet brings back fond high school memories

    Looking out on the faces of the many fellow graduates of Trimble County High School who attended Saturday’s alumni banquet at the Bedford Elementary School, I was filled with pride to be among the select fraternity to which I belong.

    The Infinite Realm, a gospel singing group that I had helped form 40 years ago in said high school, was asked to provide entertainment for this year’s gathering. Each of the six of us in the group are Trimble High graduates, although no two of us were in the same class.

  • Ghent agrees to return restoration grant money

    Ghent City Commission has decided that after more than seven years of consideration, it will end its efforts to restore the Ghent Christian Church.

    The city will now have to repay the $40,201.08 already spent and walk away from the project, based on the action taken at its regular meeting Tuesday, April 14.

    The money will be repaid in installments, but according to city clerk Bulinda Willis. This is about half of the city’s annual revenue that for the 2007-08 budget year.
