    The following events will be held at Carroll County Public Library in downtown Carrollton this week:

  • Relay for Life pageant set for April 23 at CCMS

    Relay for Life Pageant will be held Saturday, April 23 and open to everyone fitting the age requirements.

    Age categories are: pre-teen, 8-11; teen: 12-15; and miss, 16-21. The entry fee is $25 for pre-teen and teen, and $30 for miss. All proceeds go to Relay for Life.

    The pageant will be held in the auditorium at  Carroll County Middle School. Admission is $3 and  free for children 5 and under.

  • Kemper, Stafford to wed April 16

    David and Debbie Kemper of Carrollton announce the wedding of their daughter, Norma Lee Ann Kemper to Roy Lawson Stafford Jr., son of Roy and Elizabeth Stafford of Wheatley, Ky.

    The bride-elect is a 2003 graduate of Carroll County High School, and employed as a site-supervisor for United Security.

    The groom-to-be is a 1991 graduate of Owen County High School in Owenton, Ky. and is employed as an assistant manager for Hometown Pizza.

  • It’s good to serve cookies to attract a great crowd

    Cookies were in order for a recent event Bob and I attended, and I was designated to either buy or make them.

    It was for a very special meeting and I was told not to go out of my way to make the cookies. Well, many of you know me, I just cannot let a special meeting happen with store bought cookies. (Although, I can still remember those chocolate covered marshmallow cookies my father would buy; they were so good. Making cookies is like therapy for me, well, actually any kind of baking is therapy for me. Therefore, I was on for the challenge of baking at least 100 cookies.

  • Carroll defeats Trimble in bottom of 7th

    There’s nothing like a win over a border rival to get your season moving in the right direction. The Lady Panthers (1-3) notched their first victory of the season Friday night, 8-7, over the visiting Lady Raiders (1-3).

    Carroll lost to Trimble three times last year, twice during the regular season and during the All-A tournament, by a combined run total of 24-5. Despite missing their starting pitcher and two senior starters to illness, the young Lady Panthers were not intimidated by their rivals.

    Lady Panthers fall to Gallatin County, 5-0

    The Lady Panthers (0-3) lost on the road to Gallatin County 5-0 on Tuesday, March 29. Sarah Hawkins struck out five hitters for the Lady Panthers. However, JV (3-0) won 11-4, with Mackenzie Ogden getting the win on the mound.

  • Carrollton still waits for states to build a bridge to Indiana

    While the Milton-Madison Bridge was in the planning and early construction stages in 1928 there was talk of building yet another bridge spanning the Ohio River at Carrollton. Among the movers and shakers behind the proposed span was Joseph Lyter Donaldson, Carroll County attorney at the time. Donaldson would, in the years to come, serve as chairman of the state highway commission and was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for governor in 1943.
