  • Chism resigns teaching, coaching posts

    A Trimble County High School teacher who had been tapped as head football coach has resigned.

    Kirk Chism, a social studies teacher who taught psychology, U.S. History and sociology, was hired in March to take over the coaching position left vacant after former head Coach Johnny Poynter resigned in January.

    TCHS Principal Stirling Sampson said Monday that Chism tendered his resignation effective March 31 “for very personal reasons.”  

    Attempts to reach Chism for comment were unsuccessful by press time Tuesday.

  • Worthville Fire Dept. goes back into service

    Worthville Volunteer Fire Department is again answering calls after about two weeks of being out of service to allow members to complete required training.

    Worthville Fire Chief Roy Breeden said he put the department back in service after completion of more than more than 200 hours of state training by department personnel,

    The department has been in the process of reorganization in the wake of the resignation of former Fire Chief Pat McGlennon.

  • Large trailer draws attention as it moves generator

    The News-Democrat

    Moving a 375,000-pound generator is a lot like moving a football field — a lot of equipment is needed to get the job done.

    On Thursday morning, passersby and workers were treated to such a sight when one of the longest trailers ever seen in Carroll County began moving a generator from the barge dock at North American Stainless to Smith Station, a member of the East Kentucky Power Cooperative in Clark County.

    The Easter Bunny made the rounds Saturday in Trimble County, attending Easter Egg Hunts held at Mount Hermon Church on Kings Ridge Road and at Trimble County Park, co-hosted by the Milton Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Squad and Milton Baptist Church.

    Winners of The Trimble Banner’s 2009 Easter Coloring Contest were chosen this week.

  • April brings attention to organ donation

    April has again been recognized as Donate Life Month nationally and here in Kentucky. I feel that this a a good time to thank the many Carroll Countians who have supported organ and tissue donation at our drivers license counter by donating $1 in support of our Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks Trust for Life and by placing their name on the new Kentucky Organ Donor Registry.

  • 'Green Ice' creates perilous road surface for motorcyclists

    As a motorcycle rider, I have to be constantly on guard for road hazards that can cause me to lose control of my bike. Small things like loose gravel or animals darting across the road can be perilous for a biker.

    Another peril is being created by some property owners mowing the grass along the roadway. When the clippings are discharged into the road, it creates what we call “Green Ice” and can cause serious injury or death.

  • Local woman’s CD available at library

    Happy springtime! Thanks so very much to all the people who bought my CD, “Kentucky Rose.” It makes me so happy to hear that it has blessed your heart. The gospel is very powerful; it can change a person’s life, and give them peace and joy.

    The CD is now in the Trimble County Public Library in Bedford and the Carroll County Public Library in Carrollton. It’s titled, “Kentucky Rose – Pure Kentucky – Pure Gospel” and can be checked out for your enjoyment. I also give permission to copy.

  • Hoop Shooters camp attracts 21 area youngsters at Winn

    Hoop Shooters Basketball Camp was held during spring break last week at Kathryn Winn Elementary School gymnasium.

    The 21 area boys and girls ages six to 12 who participated in the camp focused on fundamental basketball skills, such as ball handling, passing and shooting; team play and sportsmanship, according to camp coordinator Chuck Roberts. Campers were placed into categories by age, physical maturity and skill level. Each camper received a camp t-shirt at the close of the three-day program.
