  • Community Action volunteers greatly appreciated

    Editor:

    April is National Volunteer Month, and I want to thank all the volunteers who have donated their time and talents to our agency.

    We have had more than 90 volun-teers in the past year at our Trimble County Center who have given so much to assist those in need.

    The agency has been fortunate to have assisted so many elderly and low-income people in our community. Our wonderful and committed volunteers make this possible. Thank you for contributing to our mission.

  • Tobacco festival committee plans April 5 turkey shoot

    I am writing on behalf of the Carroll County Tobacco Festival Committee. We have had Turkey Shoots for over six years. Some have been successful and some we went in the hole. But, we enjoy doing it and meeting new people. 

    Everyone really has a good time and it’s a lot of fun. We would like to take the time to thank everyone that has attended our turkey shoots and supported the Carroll County Tobacco Festival.

  • Hundreds take part in local health fair

    The Carroll County Health and Safety Fair on Saturday, March 28 at the Armory was deemed a success! We estimate up to 400 people took advantage of this opportunity to showcase their products and services; to network as a community; to get information to keep families healthy and safe; and to volunteer.

    Talent is abundant among members of the Carroll County boy’s tennis team, but its coach says players are just lacking in confidence this season.

    “Tennis is a head game; we see that a lot with professionals,” head coach Juan Fernandez  said in a recent interview.

  • Fiscal court funds sheriff’s vehicles, warning sirens

    Public safety purchases totaling $114,000 won Carroll County Fiscal Court’s approval Tuesday, March 24.

    Fiscal court agreed to buy two new vehicles for the sheriff’s department and four new emergency warning sirens to replace aging units.

    The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department won approval for its request to purchase two Chevrolet Tahoes and fiscal court will look into having a surplus sale to re-coup some of the expense.

  • Miller recognized as NAIA scholar athlete

    A former Carroll County student has been named to the 2008-09 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Scholar Athlete team.

    Brett Miller, a 2006 graduate from Carroll County High School and former member of the Panther basketball team is currently a student/athlete at Union College in Barbourville, Ky.  

    He was named to the Division I and II men’s basketball Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete team in March, according to a press release from the college.

  • Conversation focuses on prescription drug abuse

    The News-Democrat

    Arming a community with information about prescription drug abuse and how to treat the problem was a goal of the Community Conversation held Monday night.

    About 140 people attended the meeting at the National Guard Armory spearheaded by Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County.  Those attending had a chance to listen to experts explain what prescription drug abuse is, how to identify it and what to do about it as well as ask questions.
