  • Library offers ‘perks’ to seek item returns

    Carroll County Public Library is offering some free “perks” this holiday season.

    The entire month of December will be Amnesty Month. Below are the details:

    • An overdue item returned with a non-perishable food item will have fines forgiven.

    • Lost items.  Two non-perishable food items will have fines/processing fees forgiven and 50 percent of the replacement value forgiven.

    • One non-perishable food item will forgive any outstanding fines, if all items have been returned.

  • After trials, chicken and dumplings recipe is ready

    A friend asked if I knew of a really good recipe for the old-fashioned type of chicken and dumplings, the kind Cracker Barrel  makes. 

    I’ve been searching for something like that too because I’ve tried many recipes and I haven’t been very satisfied. After some time, through the help of my friend, Mary, and combining recipes, I think I’ve got it.  Try them and see what you think. They are easy to make and much better than the Bisquick kind.  I give you:

  • Special services set for Sanders church

    Sanders Baptist Church will celebrate the Christmas season with special  music by its youth team at 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, followed by treats to  take home.

    Brother Hardin Lowe and the congregation also invite you to join for morning  worship on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. when the adult choir will present its annual cantata.

    A “make and take craft workshop” for children will be held Wednesday, Dec.  21, at 6 p.m.

  • Extension service thanks legislators with breakfast

    The Carroll County Cooperative Extension Service hosted its first Legislative Appreciation Breakfast Tuesday, Dec. 6.

    The event, held at the Extension office, was attended by a range of government officials including Joe Williams, central/northern Kentucky field representative for the governor; Sen.Ernie Harris, Carroll County Magi-strates Floyd Bowling and Mark Bates and Carrollton Mayor Gene McMurry.  In addition, members of the Carroll County Extension Council attended.

  • Use caution when making eggnog; heat raw eggs first

    The Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service has been receiving many questions about the articles and recipes for using raw eggs in making eggnog that has been printed in the media.

    I am sharing the following item to inform my readers of the dangers of consuming raw eggs and to help you adjust your favorite eggnog recipes to be safe.

  • Pippa finds a ‘forever home’ after a ‘failed’ attempt at fostering

    It’s been almost three years since my wonderful dog Sable died. She was a black standard poodle, one of the big ones and at her top weight was 50 pounds — not exactly a lap dog, but I loved her beyond all reason and still think of her often and can tear up when I speak of her.
