  • General Butler Park to host rally for Airstream owners

    Carroll County’s General Butler State Resort Park will host the 2013 “Unbridled Spirit” Rally for Region 5 members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International next week, Sept. 11-15.

    More than 65 Airstream vehicles are signed up for camping at Butler Park, from brand-new units to the iconic vintage aluminum trailers, said Larry Spaulding, a member of Region 5’s Kentucky Unit. Region 5 also includes six other units from Indiana and Illinois.

  • Carroll loses 14-7 to Henry in home opener Friday

    It was a grind between the numbers for almost three quarters in Friday night’s clash between the Carroll County Panthers and the Henry County Wildcats. However, it was ultimately big plays and unlucky breaks that led to a 14-7 home-opening loss for the Panthers.

    After addressing the team, head coach Mike Weedman took a few minutes to himself, hugging his wife and children and collecting his thoughts. When asked why this loss hurt so much, he said it is because this group of players have worked so hard as a team.

  • Carroll among 22 Ky. schools to benefit from Race to Top grant

    It isn’t “back to school” as usual this year for 22 Kentucky school districts, including Carroll County. The nation has made a $41 million investment in the districts as a whole, and they are getting ready to prove what they can achieve.

    Board takes last year’s tax rate

    The Carroll County Board of Education voted to accept the compensating rate of 56.5 cents per $100 assessed value, which would generate the same amount of revenue the board received last year. This is because real estate assessments are flat.

    Chief Financial Officer Jon Conrad said he believes the board is in a good spot financially. Personal assessments dropped by $80 million, related to the foreign-trade agreement between the county and North American Stainless.

  • Eminence defeats Carroll, 3-1

    Serving and attack errors spelled trouble for the Carroll County volleyball team, as they lost 3-1 to Eminence Thursday, Aug. 29, at home.

    “Overall, our serves killed us,” head coach Lynn Eaglin said. “Looking at the overall stats here, we had 13 service errors and that’s way too many. … Every time you miss a serve, you give them a point.”

    The Lady Panthers also had 19 attack errors, which Eaglin described as “awful.”

  • Cross country wins first meet in more than a decade

    For the first time in more than 10 years, the Carroll County cross country team came home from a meet victorious.

    The boys team won first place at Switzerland County Wednesday, Aug. 28, beating Southwestern, Rising Sun and the home team. The girls – composed of mostly freshmen – finished in third place.

    Head coach Brian Crank said he did not realize it had been that long since cross country had won a meet until he returned to the high school.

  • Free softball clinic offered

    A free softball fundamentals clinic will be held starting Sept. 3, every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Carroll County High School softball field. The clinic is for students ages 8-18.
