    Traffic stop nets drug arrest of C’ton man

    Carrollton Police Officer Tim Mitchell conducted a traffic stop Jan. 5 at 5:20 p.m. for failure to signal, no registration plates and no insurance.

    During  the traffic stop, Mitchell arrested Carroll Meadows, 58, of 610 Hawkins St., on three counts of first-degree possession of a controlled substance,  second offense, for methamphetamine, heroin and opiates, as well as possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Arrest made in missing deposit

    A Carrollton man was arrested in Scottsburg, Ind., Jan. 9 on charges he took $4,456.25 that was supposed to be deposited for McDonald’s in Carrollton.

    Xander C. St. Croix, 38, of 1137 Brock Dr., was arrested after McDonalds learned that the deposit was not made Jan. 3 at the First National Bank office on Hwy. 227, Carroll County Sheriff Jamie Kinman said in a recent interview.

    A state commissioner spoke to the Carroll County Community Development Corporation about the effect the national “fiscal cliff” would have on state and regional levels at their annual meeting Wednesday, Jan. 16 at Camp Kysoc.

  • Construction on Hwy. 36 bridge under way soon

    The long-awaited replacement of the Hwy. 36 West bridge over Locust Creek will begin next month.

    The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced this week that crews will begin moving utilities in the area of the bridge Feb. 4 in preparation for the bridge closure March 1.

    In a news release, KYTC officials said the contractor, Judy Construction of Cynthiana, Ky., plans  to open the new bridge to traffic by June 1 and expects to complete the entire project by June 30, weather permitting.

  • Dixon resigns, Smith takes seat on P’ville commission

    Prestonville Commissioner Robert Dixon resigned prior to taking office for his fourth term in January, citing health concerns and controversy.

    At the commission’s Jan. 14 meeting, Dixon’s resignation letter was accepted and the commission, amid some debate about its selection process, elected Charles E. Smith to fill the seat.

    Dixon, who was re-elected in November, resigned as of Dec. 31, 2012.

  • Flu shots still available in county

    For those hoping to avoid catching the flu this season, the flu shot is still available at several locations in Carroll County.

    This year’s strand of seasonal influenza vaccine is estimated to be 62 percent effective, indicating moderate effectiveness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

    The CDC used data from 1,155 children and adults with acute respiratory infection to estimate the overall effectiveness of the seasonal influenza vaccine.
