  • Ghent man charged with child's death

    A Carroll County man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 2-year-old son. 

    In a news release Saturday, Kentucky State Police said Douglas Allen, 26, of Ghent was

    charged in connection with the Feb. 19 death of his son. 

  • Jefferies charged with DUI, assault in connection with Hwy. 36 car wreck

    Kentucky State Police Trooper Dave Roberts arrested Donald Jefferies, 50, of Goshen, March 6, and charged him with DUI and three counts of first-degree assault, according to a state police news release.

  • Worthville firefighters to hold turkey dinner

    Worthville Volunteer Fire Department hosts a turkey dinner beginning at 3 p.m., Saturday, March 22, at the firehouse.
    Proceeds from the dinner will benefit the fire department’s second annual Carroll County Haunted Trail.
    The cost is $5 per plate, and the meal will include turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, green beans, etc. Desserts also will be available for purchase.

  • Foundation offers free trees

    The Arbor Day Foundation is making it easy for everyone to celebrate the arrival of spring by planting trees.

    Join the Arbor Day Foundation in March and receive 10 free white flowering dogwood trees. The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America campaign.

    The trees will be shipped postpaid with enclosed planting instructions at the right time for planting between March 1 and May 31.

  • Spring break will not be used for make up days

    By a vote of 3-2, Carroll County Board of Education agreed Tuesday at a special meeting to continue adding on school days to the end of the year and not to use spring break week to make up any of the district’s 14 snow days. The last day of school for students is currently June 3. Spring break is scheduled for March 31-April 4.

  • Hwy. 36 car wreck leaves four injured

    Four people were injured in a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 36 near Notch Lick Road in Carroll County Wednesday, Feb. 26. Carroll County Dispatch received a call about the incident at 11:36 a.m.

    Preliminary investigation shows that a vehicle driven by Donald Jeffries, 50, of Goshen, was traveling eastbound on Hwy. 36 when the vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons, according to a Kentucky State Police news release. Jeffries’ vehicle collided head-on with a westbound vehicle driven by Stephen Wise, 37, of Carrollton. 

  • Contractor selected for $7.8 million middle school renovation project

    Carroll County Board of Education awarded the Carroll County Middle School renovation project bid to Marrilla Design and Construction of Lexington, Ky., at its meeting Thursday, Feb. 27.

    The board received nine bids for the project, which were opened Feb. 6. Marrilla had the lowest bid for both the base and the alternates selected Feb. 11, by the board at a work session meeting, Ron Murrell of Ross Tarrant Architects said. The base bid for the project is $7,434,659 with alternates 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11 selected for a total construction cost of $7,798,115.
