    Wesleyan church plans 90th year celebration

    The Carrollton Wesleyan Church, 216 Third Street, is celebrating 90 years at a special service during its revival Sunday, Oct. 20.

    District Superintendent Marlin Hotle will serve as the evangelist and speak at the church.

    All former pastors and district superintendents have been invited. There also will be an afternoon concert with Jay and Amber Wisler.

    The 2013 Carroll County Tobacco Festival returns to downtown Carrollton. 5-11 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 10-11 p.m. Saturday. The event includes a carnival, vendors, food, entertainment, a parade, bucket brigade, sing-off competition and more. See pages 8-13 for additional information.

  • Panther Pursuit kicks off Homecoming Week

     

    Carroll County High School Homecoming Week kicked off Monday with the Panther Pursuit, a 5K race through campus. Sixty runners and walkers participated in the event. Homecoming Week continued Wednesday with Powderpuff, followed by the parade and bonfire Thursday. The Homecoming king and queen will be crowned at 7 p.m. Friday before the football game.

  • Schools make some improvement, miss accountability goal

    The Carroll County School District grew from a 48.9 Annual Measurable Objective to a 49.6 on Kentucky’s Next-Generation Achievement testing system from 2011-12 to 2012-13.  Ken-tucky’s assessment and accountability system determines which schools and school districts are improving and which are not.

  • Extensions’ forestry fall webinar series begins Oct. 1

    Carroll County woodland owners and other interested individuals are invited to attend the Forestry Fall Webinar Series at the Carroll County Extension Office beginning Oct. 1.

    The Forestry Fall Webinar Series is an excellent opportunity for woodland owners and those with an interest in forestry to get a significant amount of information in a relatively short time, without having to drive great distances to attend.

    The webinar will start at 7 p.m., last about one hour, at the Carroll County Extension Office.

    The first topic will be tree identification.

  • Think food safety when tailgating this fall in Kentucky

    Football season is time for good food, tailgating, and family times with lots of good food. With changing weather from cool to warmer temperatures, it can also be a time for the risk of foodborne illness to increase. Keep your family safe from foodborne illness this season by following these on-the-go food safety tips:

    • Carry cold perishable foods in an insulated cooler with several inches of ice or frozen gel packs. Never let raw meat, cooked food or cut fresh fruits or vegetables sit out for more than two hours.
