  • Donate nonperishable food item to have library fines forgiven

    According to the nonprofit group Feeding America, 50.1 million Americans were living in “food insecure homes” last year. Of that number, 16 million were children.

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines a food-insecure home as one in which there is reduced quality, variety or desirability of diet. This can ultimately affect or disrupt the number of meals available to a family. Unfortunately, these statistics may not be surprise many of us. Americans living in hunger is a very real problem.

  • Local students accepted to Union College for 2013

    Two local students have been accepted to attend Union College for the fall semester of 2013.

    Those students are Trey Boles of Carrollton and Clayton Martin of Milton.

    Located in Barbourville, Ky., Union College offers an education experience where students receive personal attention to help make their educational experience successful.

    Union is a four-year liberal arts school related to the United Methodist Church.

    Tuesday, Nov. 27: Lasagna, tossed salad, vegetable blend, breadstick, fresh fruit and milk; breakfast: pancakes and bacon.

  • Carroll County students learn citizenship through food drive

    November has been an active month of learning about citizenship for students in the Carroll County School District. From the Presi-dential Election to Veteran’s Day to Scouting for Food, students have learned first-hand what citizens must do to live in a civil society. Throughout November, students learned about democracy, honored those who keep our country safe, and have helped fellow Carroll County citizens who need a helping hand during the holidays.

  • Bazaar, craft show set to benefit troops

    The Holiday Bazaar and Craft Show is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at the National Guard Armory, 1828 U.S. Hwy. 227, Carrollton.

    Santa will be on site to have his picture taken with the little ones. All proceeds from booth rentals benefit the local deployed soldiers.
