  • New Ghent city park needs lot

    Parking issues at Ghent’s newest city park raised some debate among commissioners during a special meeting Monday, March 18.

    Mayor William Mumphrey informed the commissioners that the city is obligated to provide parking specifically for the new Clayton Arney Memorial Park, which is located off Fishing Street on a hill that overlooks the boat ramp owned by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.

  • City increases spending on fireworks

    The city of Carrollton will increase the amount of money it spends on fireworks this year from $12,500 last year to $15,500. The second annual Fourth of July celebration will be held July 4 at Point Park.

    The 2013 Fourth of July budget is $23,200; last year’s was $23,094.

    Mayor Gene McMurry said he has put $25,000 in next fiscal year’s budget for the event. However, 50 percent of the bill needs to be paid by April 15. As a result, this year’s fiscal court budget will need to be amended.

  • New warning siren will be installed near high school

    Two local boards that focus on public safety joined forces this month to fund a new Community Outdoor Warning System on the Carroll County High School campus.

    In recognition of Severe Weather Awareness Month, the Dow Corning/PMC Organometallix Community Advisory Panel and Carroll County Emergency Planning Committee each are paying for half of the $17,015 for the new warning siren, Carroll County Emergency Management Director Ed Webb said in a Monday interview.

  • Mills, Mahoney exchange vows

    Zachary Allen Mahoney of Carrollton and Amber Nicole Mills of Carrollton exchanged vows Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Carroll County Courthouse in Carrollton.

    The bride is the daughter of Rhonda McCoy of Carrollton. She is a 2008 graduate of Carroll County High School.

    The groom is the son of Jeffery Mahoney of Carrollton and Meloney Stivers of Carrollton. He is a 2010 graduate of  Carroll County High School and is employed as a cashier with Prestonville Shell in Prestonville, Ky.

    Mr. and Mrs. Donald Allen Rassman Jr. of Carrollton announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Shauna Marie Rassman to Johnny Ray Beach, son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Lee Beach of Patriot Ind.

    The bride-elect is a 2008 graduate of Carroll County High School and a 2010 graduate of Empire Hair School. She is employed at Belterra Casino and Resort in Vevay, Ind.

    The Groom-to-be is a 2011 graduate of Switzerland County High School and is employed at Belterra Casino Resort in Vevay.
