  • Carrollton Main Street Program presents A Christmas Carroll

    “A Christmas Carroll” comes to downtown Carrollton Saturday with a parade, a scavenger hunt, carriage rides, contests and a bake-off. Organizers encourage all county residents to attend the festivities.
    “A Christmas Carroll is the official kickoff to the Christmas season in Carroll County,” according to Sam Burgess, manager of the Carrollton Main Street Program which sponsors the event. “It’s the only public Christmas event going on countywide.”

  • Our Savior’s Nativity featured at local church

    The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 501 Main St., Carrollton will hold  “Our Savior’s Nativity”  Thursday and Friday, Dec. 2-3, from 5-8 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

  • Brothers live together in harmony in monastery

    I am writing this article from Cuernavaca, Mexico. I am doing an intensive Spanish course to help the Hispanic community at St. John Catholic Church.
    I am sure all will be glad to know about the life and culture in Mexico. I would like to share my experience with you. When I first started planning my Spanish study I had several options for accommodation. I asked my teacher to find a place close to a church so that I may be able to celebrate Mass every day. My teacher Esperanza, contacted the Benedictine Monks in Cuernavaca and they graciously accepted her request.

  • A word of praise for our firefighters

    One of the TV shows I watch regularly is CBS Sunday morning. This week’s program featured a tribute to volunteer firemen and women.  I’d like to add my own praise for these most vital members of our community.
    Several years ago, I think around 2000, I answered a knock at my front door on the Sunday afternoon before Thanksgiving to see a fireman standing there. “Mrs. Boyd, you might want to move your car.  The warehouse is on fire,” he said.

    Everyone appears to be looking to Frankfort or to Washington to take action that will improve our local economy and put people back to work.
    But that’s not necessary.
    With the holiday shopping season here, you can have an impact on the economy in Carroll County by simply spending your holiday budget here at home.

  • Bedbug problem discussed

    There will be a program about dealing with the bedbug problem that is sweeping the world on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Carroll County Extension Office. The meeting is free and open to the general public but due to invited audience we ask all that might attend to RSVP to the Extension Office at 732-7030 so we make sure we have enough handouts and seats.
