  • Clerk: Audit completed; changes implemented

    State Auditor Adam Edelen last week released the final report of an audit of the Carroll County Clerk’s Office for a year that saw a deputy clerk indicted and fired for writing bad checks that she cashed in the office.

    Overall, the audit report for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31, 2011 states that County Clerk Alice Marsh’s “financial statement presents fairly the revenues, expenditures, and excess fees of the Carroll County clerk in conformity with the regulatory basis of accounting.”

  • Group seeks $140k in donations for Guard memorial

    A local committee is beginning work to raise more than $140,000 to create a memorial to honor the service of all those who have volunteered to serve in the National Guard unit based in Carrollton.

    Committee chairman Command Sgt. Major (Ret.) Jimmy Supplee outlined the project Tuesday for the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce membership. Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson, also a committee member, shared the plans and a large architectural drawing of the memorial with fiscal court at its meeting Tuesday morning.

  • Hughes, May to wed Sept. 10

    Marlene Hughes of Drennon, Ky. and Danny May of Emminence, Ky. would like to announce their upcoming wedding.

    Ms. Hughes is the daughter of Vicky Le Master of Drennon and the late Jack McDowell. Mr. May is the son of Thelma May of Eminence and the late J.T. May.

    The private ceremony will take place, Sept. 10, 2012, and will be by invitation only.

    There will be a reception at a later date.

    The couple will reside in Drennon.

    Carrollton Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at Butler Park lodge.

    AA Big Book study groups meets every Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St.

    Cartmell Elementary School Site Based Decision Making Council meets at 3:30 p.m. an the school.

    Sharon Graves of Ghent will be the featured artist at Gallery 104 in La Grange, Ky., from 6-8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Graves will be giving away at least one painting.

  • Groups hosting golf scramble fund-raisers

    The Worthville Fire Departmentis hosting its first four-person golf scramble Saturday, Sept. 8, at Cardinal Hills Golf Course in Bedford.

    Cost is $40 per player and registration is open until tee time at 8 a.m.

    Winners will receive trophies. Proceeds will be used for the purchase of a tanker truck. For more information, call Ernie at (502) 525-0268.

    Hopewell Community Church on Locust Road in Carroll County is having their annual homecoming celebration on Sunday, Sept. 9.

    Join the congregation for Bible study at 10 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m., followed by an afternoon of fellowship and music. The public is invited to attend.
