  • Santa helps with Relay fundraiser

    Santa Claus is coming to Kroger, 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 21. Santa will have his photo taken with children, a $1 donation to be given to Carroll County Relay for Life.

  • Santa to visit Beall home in Ghent

    Santa Claus will visit the Beall’s house, 704 Liberty Street in Ghent, again this year. He’ll be there from 6-9 p.m., Friday, Saturday Dec. 20-21 and from 6-8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 23-24.

    Everyone is welcome to stop by for a candy cane and some hot chocolate and to visit with Santa.

  • Planning, tips can take stress out of holidays

    Wow, can it really be that we are here, now, facing the holidays? If you are like me, you are totally excited.

    I love the holiday season and all its grandeur. The thought of spending time with loved ones, eating delicious foods to our hearts content and most of all, feeling the Christ-mas spirit, is enough to make any time special.

  • Proper feeding in winter saves hay, keeps horses healthy

    With snow and colder temperatures showing up over the past weeks, producers should consider the nutritional needs of their horses and how those needs can change during Kentucky winters.

    The first step is to assess its body condition score, referred to as BCS, which is the amount of fat the horse is carrying.

    During the holiday break parents and grandparents can share many happy fun activities.

    Outdoor play is still important, but doing indoor activities in the warmth of the home is more enticing.

    Think for a moment about how to make the best use of your children’s indoor time. What are your children’s interests? What are they able to do developmentally?

    Buying expensive items is unnecessary. There are many things right in your own home or garage that you can use for activities to do with your children and the rest of the family, too.

  • Teacher wins $500 technology grant

    First-year special education teacher David Craig won a $500 grant from McDonald’s to be used for technology in his classroom at Carroll County Middle School.  Craig was presented with the check by Grant Groen, a McDonald’s franchise owner.

    “It is an honor to do something to help the students and families of Carroll County Middle School,” Groen said.

  • Phase I designs near completion for new JCTC building

    Architects hired to complete a master plan for the proposed new Carrollton campus for Jefferson Community and Technical College are preparing to take their preliminary Phase I designs to Frankfort next month to help the project get funded in the 2014-16 state budget.
