  • Applying early to college pays off for CCHS seniors

    Before she had even started her senior year of high school, Danielle Wheeler was focused on her freshman year of college. Wheeler visited eight colleges this past summer, narrowed the list to four or five, and pared it down even more after a second visit.   In August, Wheeler applied to Berea College and Morehead State University. Accepted to both schools, Wheeler is among 25 other Carroll County High School seniors so far who have already gotten in to college.

  • Kroger holds Relay for Life fundraiser

    Kroger Relay for Life bake sale and pictures with Santa will be held, Saturday, Dec. 17, at Krogers in Carrollton.  

    The bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. -1 p.m. and pictures with Santa Claus (donation of $1) from 1-3 p.m. All donations will be given to Relay for Life.

  • Rotary, CCMH partner for winter ball fundraiser

    Carrollton Rotary Club will partner with Carroll County Memorial Hospital to begin a fundraising campaign to purchase digital mammography equipment for the hospital.
    The club will revivie the popular Rotary Winter Ball, a black-tie optional event scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18 at General Butler State Resport Park, according to club member Nick Marsh, chairman of the event.

    A few years ago, a dear friend gave me a taste of a wonderful quick bread, that I thought was out of this world.

    I was fortunate because Pam Eskew gave me the recipe.  Her mother, Mary Biehl, gave it to her.

  • Beef network helps farmers enhance livestock values

    The Kentucky Beef Network (KBN) and the University of Kentucky have developed a new program, funded by the state Agricultural Development Board, to enhance the value of feeder calves in Kent-ucky. 

    This project lasts for three breeding seasons — Nov-ember 2011 to January 2012, March-June 2012, and November 2012 to January 2013 — and it is a great opportunity for beef cattle producers in Carroll County.
