    Undesirable soil structure in two places has resulted in change orders for the Carroll County High School athletic field renovations.

    The original budget included $18,000 for soil problems, which covered the first site under the track near the walkway coming off the school parking lot.

  • 10-year-old dies in I-71 crash in Henry County on July 1

    A July 1 crash on Interstate 71 involving multiple vehicles at the 36-mile marker southbound claimed the life of a 10-year-old girl from Houghton, La., according to the Kentucky State Police.

    State police identified Bailey Spreights as the victim of the 1 p.m. accident that involved three commercial vehicles and three passenger cars, according to Trooper Josh Lawson, Post 5 spokesman. Earlier reports had said nine vehicles were involved.

  • Kelly repeats as Governor’s Cup champion at Regatta

    J. Michael Kelly in the Graham Trucking U-5 won the Indiana Governor’s Cup H1 Unlimited Hydroplane race Sunday, taking home the historic Governor’s Cup trophy for the second consecutive year.

    Kelly pulled away from second-place finisher Jimmy Shane in the U-1 Oberto/Miss Madison on the first lap of the winner-take-all championship heat. 

  • State legislation raising drop out rate to 18 years old begins this school year

    A 2013 state legislative amendment increasing the age limit for compulsory attendance for Kentucky students to age 18 begins with the 2015-16 school year.

    Previously, unmarried students between the ages of 16 and 18 were able to withdraw from school and terminate his/her education prior to graduation if they had complied with the requirements of KRS 159.010, regarding parents or custodians sending their child to school.

  • Carroll couple injured on motorcycle in Nelson Co.

    A motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon caused a chain reaction that sent three people to the hospital.

    At around 1:18 p.m. Nelson County Sheriff’s deputies and Nelson County EMS responded to Taylorsville Road about a mile north of Bloomfield to a report of accidents involving a large group of motorcycles traveling through the area.

  • Casey County clerk wants state to issue marriage licenses online

    FRANKFORT — The controversy over the refusal of a few county clerks in Kentucky to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples spilled over into the Capitol on Monday.

    Casey County Clerk Casey Davis, who was trying to get a meeting with Gov. Steve Beshear, told reporters that his pledge to God to uphold the law would not allow him to accommodate same-sex couples.
