  • Corbin’s buzzer-beater sends seniors off with win

    Friday night proved to be a fairy tale ending for the Fab Five seniors.

    Tied up at 66 points apiece, the Panthers took a timeout with 6.1 seconds to go. The visiting Walton-Verona Bearcats had just erased a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit with a 3-pointer by Tanner Moeves off a screen on the right side of the floor.

  • Ladies fall 47-13 to Bearcats

    The Lady Panthers struggled mightily on offense Friday, posting their lowest output of the season with a 47-13 loss to Walton-Verona.

    However, head coach Paul Stone said he was proud of his team’s defense, especially in the third quarter, in which his team outscored the Lady Bearcats 6-3. “I was proud of the way we came out and played in the third quarter,” he said. “They didn’t give up and came out ready to play.”

  • Sheriff’s Office arrests wanted Ohio convicted sex offender

    A convicted sex offender from Ohio who allegedly left that state without properly notifying authorities was arrested in Carroll County on Jan. 30.

    Stanley S. Snow, II, 29, 1452 Goose Creek Road, Worthville, was sought by the U.S. Marshals and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, according to a sheriff’s office news release. The U.S. Marshal Service received a tip that Snow was in Carroll County and the agency requested the sheriff’s office assist in locating him.

  • Lloyd seeks to spread word about Haven of Hope

    Haven of Hope’s new executive director is hoping to spread the word about the nonprofit’s services for expectant mothers.

    Lisa Lloyd, who took over the job on Jan. 3, said she wants people in Carroll County and surrounding communities to know about Haven of Hope.

    “I feel like we could be serving so many more clients. There’s so many people that don’t know about us,” Lloyd said. “That’s one of my goals for this center is to be able to have it be common knowledge in every household in the community.”

  • KDH ready for move to new hilltop hospital

    Sunday brought a day of celebration for King’s Daughters’ Health in Madison, Ind., as officials welcomed thousands for open house tours and dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremonies at the new $100 million hospital.

    Located on State Route 62 on Madison’s hilltop, the new facility features 86 private rooms and offices for many of KDH’s doctors, an expanded emergency department and loads of new technology throughout the various departments at the medical facility.

  • Creamed

    A single-vehicle accident involving a tanker truck blocked the Interstate 71 southbound lanes Wednesday, Feb. 13 and spilled about 10,000 pounds of cream into the median.

    James Casto, 35, of Homan Transportation was hauling about 20,000 pounds of Dannon cream when he lost control of the vehicle and overturned near the 50 mile marker, according to Carroll County Sheriff Jamie Kinman.

    Emergency Management Director Ed Webb estimated about half of the cream traveled from the median into the storm drain into a ravine and, finally, into a pond off Hwy. 36 East.

  • Trailer ‘total loss’ in fire

    A trailer in Happy Hollow was destroyed after a fire spread from the fireplace and into the ceiling Monday, Feb. 11.

    Worthville Volunteer Fire Department and Ghent Fire Protection District responded to a call at 9:59 p.m. to 301 Larry Court in Happy Hollow.

    Owner Mike Plew was home at the time of the fire, Worthville Fire Chief Ernie Courtney said. Worthville arrived on scene at 10:13 p.m., and the fire chief said the fire was fully involved when they arrived. The trailer was “a total loss,” Courtney said.
