  • Photos still needed to complete photo book on Carroll County

    With my final deadline now just a couple of weeks away, time is running out and I am now to a point where I’m looking only for specific photos to make this Carroll County book project complete.

    I have already scanned hundreds of wonderful photos, and now I have to go through and determine which ones will “make the cut.” Thank you to everyone who has donated these images.

    Historic Preservation approves Streetscape

    The Streetscape Project, which would refurbish sidewalks and lampposts on the courthouse square in Carrollton, has been approved by the state Historic Preservation Office.

    While the paperwork had been pending since August 2009, it will now be sent back to Frankfort for more signatures.

  • Run/walk held Aug. 11 to honor an assault victim

    Three Carroll County moms are honoring Sarah Hart, an assault victim from Russell Springs, Ky.

    Leah Spencer, Julie Aulbach and Amy Alsup invite the community to come and participate in a “virtual run.”

    Run With All Your Hart Run/Walk will take place on Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. at the back entrance of General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton.

  • ‘Sharing the Health’ at CCMH

    Nearly twice as many people than was expected attended the first Hispanic Health Fair at Carroll County Memorial Hospital Saturday, July 28.

    While 96 people pre-registered for the event, a total of 132 stopped by throughout the morning. The health fair was intended for Hispanic and low-income families in the area.

  • Ghent city clerk resigns

    The Ghent City Commission voted during a special meeting Tuesday, July 24, to approve the appointment of Robbin Powell as temporary city clerk/treasurer.

    The position was vacated Friday, July 11, when former clerk Bulinda Willis submitted her written resignation to Mayor Bill Mumphrey.

    Powell was hired to fill in until a permanent clerk is hired. Applications for the position are being accepted through Monday, Aug. 6.

    City officials are working to clarify the living situation of Commissioners Kenny and Lisa Barr to determine if a conflict of interest exists.

  • Rosenbaum wins age group at state’s Bluegrass Games

     Congratulations to Dustin Rosenbaum, member of the Carroll County 4-H Shooting Sports Club, for his great success at the 2012 Kentucky Blue Grass Games, held July 15th in Anderson County.

    In the Three Position Small Bore Rifle Match, Dustin scored 508 points out of a possible 600 points. Not only did he win his age group with this score, but he also was the overall match winner.

    In the Dewar’s Rifle Match, Dustin scored 375 points out of a possible 400 points, earning him the top spot in his age group, and second overall in the match.

  • Extension’s sewing camp proves successful

     Last week, Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20 mornings, we held our first Youth Sewing Camp and taught 14 girls and one boy ages 8-12 years old the beginning steps in sewing. What a fun week. At 9 a.m. on Monday the children arrived bright and eagerly looking forward to the fun-filled week as they learned to sew.
