  • Winning on the road: Carroll wins in OT at Owen

    The Panthers remain undefeated at 4-0 as they survive an overtime district thriller on the road against the Owen County Rebels Thursday, winning 53-51.

    “Both teams played really, really hard, very intense game,” head coach Carroll Yager said. “Both of the crowds were into it. It was a fun atmosphere. We feel fortunate to get the win.” Yager said it was one of those games where either team could have won because it was so close.

  • Kentuckians give time, money to help others

    If it seems that the news is often filled more with what’s wrong with the world than what’s right, the holidays give us a chance to flip that equation for a time.

    Here in Kentucky, it doesn’t take long to find some good news across the state.

    Earlier this fall, for example, we learned our citizens are much more willing to give to charitable causes than those living in most other states.  According to the Chronicle of Philanthropy, we rank 15th in this category.

  • Long-time employee caught stealing equipment in county

    A long-time employee of Harris Farms was arrested after suspicions that he was stealing from the company were allegedly confirmed.
    Juan Carlos Perez, 34, 748 Tom Harris Road, Carrollton, was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking over $10,000. The charge is a Class C felony.

  • County Attorney office relocating

    Carroll County Attorney Nick Marsh’s office will relocated Dec. 13 and 14 to 115 Fifth St. in downtown Carrollton.

    Business will be limited during the move and phone service may be interrupted, according to a news release from the office. If anyone needs to make payments for child support, delinquent taxes or cold checks, they may bring them to the new location during the move.

  • Becky Pyles says goodbye after 27 years in city gov’t

    After 27 years of serving Carrollton city government and working tirelessly to keep the city running, city clerk/treasurer Becky Pyles is hanging up her many hats and retiring.

    Over that time, she has worked with five mayors, moved the city offices and led the transition from paper files to computerized files.
    In an interview Dec. 6, Pyles reflected on her work with the city.

    A native of Milton, she is a 1969 graduate of Trimble County High School.

  • Prestonville agrees to sue building contractor

    Prestonville City Commission voted Monday to take legal action against Can Do Construction of Carrollton to recover alleged damages in the construction of its recreation building and city hall.

    Commissioners instructed City Attorney Alecia Gamm Hubbard to file suit to get back money on the project for repairs they say will be needed, citing poor-quality workmanship.

    “It’s terrible,” Commissioner Wilk Hoskins said.

  • Webster sponsors CCAS ‘vetting’ for cats

    Homes for cats and kittens are one of Carroll County Animal Support’s toughest tasks.

    It is CCAS policy that the animals will be “fully vetted” (meaning they will be either spayed or neutered and have all up-to-date shots) before they are adopted.

    Dog adoptions require both an approved adoption application and an adoption fee.

    As cats and kittens are difficult to get adoption fees for, the group gets donations to have the cat “fully vetted.”

    This ensures that CCAS cats will not be producing more cats.

    You may wonder what I have been doing since my last column.  I can honestly tell you…everything. I’ve taken up knitting again, which I probably haven’t done for more than 30 years. It really helps with the evening snacking issue, too. Who wants to get their hands all gooey with something sweet and knit at the same time? Me!
