  • Spencer, Perkins to wed Aug. 4

     George and Bonnie Spencer of Madison, Ind. and Clay and Tracy Yocum of Milton, Ky. announce the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Megan Spencer to Kyle Perkins of Carrollton, son of Denny and Candy Perkins and Greg Davis and Karen Day all of Carrollton.

    The bride-to-be is a 2004 graduate of Carroll County High School and is currently a student.

    The groom-elect is a 2005 graduate of Carroll County High School and is employed by North American Stainless in Carrollton.

    Kathryn Winn Primary students swim at the Switzerland County YMCA on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:45-1:45 p.m. as part of Winn’s Summer ChAMP Program. Dates are July 9-12, July 16-19 and July 23-24.  Summer ChAMP closing day is July 26.

  • Stephens takes helm at CCHS

    The new principal at Carroll County High School may have a different title, but is really not new at all.
    Tom Stephens has served as vice principal for the school since 2002 and recently accepted the top position as principal.

    Prior to coming to Carroll County, he taught for seven years in Union County, Ky. He has lived in many different areas, including Texas, Georgia, Virginia and Washington D.C. He is originally from Virginia, although he graduated from high school in Greenup, Ky.

  • CCHS prepares for new school year with freshman orientation

    Carroll County High School will host freshman orientation on Friday, Aug. 3, for students and parents to help prepare them for the opening day of school on Wednesday, Aug. 8. 

    This is the ninth year that Carroll County High School will be offering the “Panther Kick-Off” Orientation as a freshman transition experience. With the support of administration they are offering this opportunity for all incoming freshmen to be held Friday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Carroll County High School. 

  • Not all foods need to be cooked to be enjoyed

     With this heat we have been having, I am sure it’s just as hard for you as it is for me to decide what to prepare for every meal. 

    I sometimes just stand in front of the open refrigerator door and try to figure out what sounds good.  Then I think about all the fresh foods now coming from our gardens and try to determine the best way to prepare them.

    You know, we don’t always have to cook the food. Many times it is even better eaten raw.

  • One person killed, two injured in Carroll County accident

    A father was killed and his wife and child were seriously injured after being involved in a single-vehicle accident Sunday, July 15 on I-71 North in Carroll County. 

    At approximately 6:30 p.m., William Wildeboer, 56, of Woodlawn, Ky. was driving northbound on I-71 at the 39 mile marker. After he swerved to miss debris in the roadway, his vehicle went into a ditch and flipped several times, according to a Kentucky State Police news release. Carroll County Deputy Coroner Brent Stucker pronounced Wildeboer dead at the scene.

     Registration will be held July 16-27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for Carroll County Parks and Recreation co-ed youth soccer league. The parks and rec office is located on the third floor of the county courthouse.
