Norman C. Gross Norman C. Gross, 86, of Madison, Ind. died Wednesday, Apr. 30, 2008 at his residence. Born Aug. 27, 1921 in Trimble County, he was the son of Jesse and Dollie Cull Gross. Raised in Trimble County, he was united in marriage June 27, 1966 at the First Baptist Church to Hattie Ellsworth. He owned and operated a farm near Brooksburg for several years raising cattle and tobacco. He was employed for 30 years with the Madison State Hospital working in maintenance, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church. He enjoyed University of Kentucky basketball, his dog Reggie, gardening, mowing the grass, feeding the squirrels, bird watching and hunting. Survivors include his wife, Hattie Ellsworth Gross, Madison; three step-daughters, Mary Frances (Danny) Baxter, Alva, Fla., Diana Kay (Stuart) Hasaker, Louisville, Kathy Brierly, Madison; one step-son, Joe (Mary Merrill) Jacobs, Madison; four granddaughters, Tammy Jo Fitzpatrick, Melissa Stites Keeley, Jacqueline Stites Kramer, Charlotte Stites Foley; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. His parents, step-daughters, Jeannie Ramsey and Brenda Tyrell, his step-sons, Merritt and Doug Jacobs, grandson Brian Stites, sisters, Velma Thompson, Mary Bell and Vera Applegate; and brothers Alvin, Calvin, Jesse, Oscar, George, Perry and Wilbur Gross preceded him in death. Services were May 3, 2008 at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with Rev. Joe Cartwright officiating. Burial was in Moffett Cemetery, Milton. The family requests memorials to the Brian Stites Scholarship Fund, contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
