  • Relay for Life ready to kick off 2012 campaign

    Carroll County Relay for Life is gearing up for a great relay year, but to make the event a success we need volunteers.

    The official kick off will take place on Thursday, March 1 at Carrollton United Methodist Church at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall.

    At this time we would like to extend an invitation to any teams or team members, volunteers who would like to become a part of the committee, or survivors to attend.

    If anyone has questions pertaining to how the American Cancer Society Relay for Life works, feel free to join us.

  • Girl Scouts prepare to deliver cookie orders

    Starting Feb. 18, Girl Scouts and troop leaders from across the Kentuckiana Council will deliver cookies throughout 64 counties across the western half of Kentucky and in southern Indiana.  

    If you didn’t order any cookies yet this year, Girl Scouts will be setting up public booths at area stores and other public venues from March 2-18. All cookies still sell for $3.50 per box.

    Funds raised locally stay in the Kentuckiana Council to support the Girl Scout mission.

  • Parents congratulate CCHS cheerleaders

    We as parents, grandparents, friends and relatives have had the opportunity to watch our own Carroll County High School cheerleaders in action at athletic functions and at several competitions this year.

    These totally dedicated young ladies have spent many hours along with numerous injuries and overcoming many hurdles to perfect routines and stunts hoping to get the fans excited at our local ballgames. These talented young athletes recently won first place at the 8th Region KAPOS cheerleading competition, giving them a bid to compete at the state level.

  • Mayor thanks residents for forum input

    I want to thank everyone that attended the public forum Thursday evening at Carroll County Middle School. 

    I was especially pleased with the open discussion about downtown revitalization and the Point Park master plan.  Without your support, we in city government cannot move this community forward. 

    I also thank everyone that helped organize and conduct the meeting.  We promise now to use your input as a plan for revitalizing the downtown business district and future use of the Point Park.

  • Support makes event at CCATC a success

    On behalf of the staff and students at the Carroll County Area Technology Center, I would like to thank all of our community sponsors and participants for making our annual College and Career Day a huge success.

    This year makes our third annual event and was held Friday Feb. 10 in celebration of Career and Technical Education Week. We had nearly 30 colleges, universities, technical schools, and career service representatives with us for our exciting day. It was a great opportunity for our students because of the generosity of our community.

  • Outpouring provides food for animals

    A few months ago I had the pleasure of waiting on some of the ladies that work for Carroll County Animal Support. I enjoyed talking to them about all the hard work they were doing to help the animals. Their work included helping with the rescue of the animals from Henry County.

    I decided to start collecting donations for the dogs that were rescued. Immediately I received an outpouring of donations from the employees of Down On Main Street and also some of my guests who came in for dinner.

  • Residents earn awards at Special Olympics

    Carroll County Special Olympics competed in two statewide events in the past two months with the following results:

    • Bowling, Dec. 3, 2011, State Tournament in Louisville, singles competition: Zach Lynn, first (gold medal); Amanda Hearn, fourth place; Thomas Granger, fourth place; Rhonda Burns, first (gold medal); Mary Pyles, third place (bronze medal); Melissa Cooper, third (bronze medal); David Gregory, fifth place; and Robbie Andrews, fourth place.

  • Jars in stores raise funds for Kosair Children’s Hospital

    In April 2011, I noticed an odd looking rash all over my three-year-old son Wyatt’s body. He also had a lot of bruising. So, the next morning, his father and I took him to the doctor. The doctor knew that something was wrong right away, so she took some blood from him. The results came back that he had a platelets count of 1,000 (A normal count is anywhere from 150,000 to 400,000).

  • Show support for the clean energy bill

    The Clean Energy Opportunity Act (HB167) is currently being considered by the Kentucky House of Representatives during the General Assembly. This bill encourages greater energy efficiency, conservation and use of all energy resources in order to gain energy independence and encourage economic growth. It also will enable Kentucky to be a leader in renewable energy alternatives to stabilize energy costs and create jobs for our commonwealth.

  • Writing group sets February meetings

    I would like to let your readers know about an informal group of adults (18 and over) that meets at the Carroll County Public Library every other Monday at 1 p.m. In February, we will meet on the 6th and 20th.

    It’s fun to share a poem, short story, essay, old love letters, and such. We have a short 10 minute or less writing exercise for fun.

    We also will share publishing opportunities, give information on how-to-books, writing styles, etc.
