  • Writing group sets February meetings

    Editor:

    I would like to let your readers know about an informal group of adults (18 and over) that meets at the Carroll County Public Library every other Monday at 1 p.m. In February, we will meet on the 6th and 20th.

    It’s fun to share a poem, short story, essay, old love letters, and such. We have a short 10 minute or less writing exercise for fun.

    We also will share publishing opportunities, give information on how-to-books, writing styles, etc.

  • Girl Scouts celebrate 100 years with new cookie

    Girl Scout Cookie season for Kentuckiana officially kicked off Jan. 1. In honor of Girl Scouting’s 100th anniversary, a new lemon flavored cookie will be offered this year along with other long-time favorites, including Trefoils, Do-Si-Dos, and Dulce de Leches. Cookies are still $3.50 per box.

  • Thanks extended to participants at event

    The third Christmas wreath decorating contest and silent auction was held by Carrollton Federal Bank on Dec. 9 in conjunction with an open house.  The proceeds from the silent auction went to Relay For Life.

    All of the wreaths submitted for the contest displayed imagination and creativity. It was our honor to display the wreaths in our lobby. They were beautifully decorated and received many compliments by the public.

  • Donations make stone wall project a reality

    On behalf of the Port William Historical Society, many thanks to all of those business and people who helped us with our latest building project. As a result of their contributions the cemetery at Masterson House will be esthetically improved by the addition of the period-appropriate dry-laid stone wall. Perhaps more importantly, the graves within the cemetery will be better protected from Hwy. 42, which is now so close after its expansion. All of us who live and work in Carroll County can take pride in this preservation of local heritage.

    Although football season has come to an end I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to the Carroll County High School football players and coaches for a great season.

    Way to go fellas, 8-2 is something to be very proud of. I also wanted to thank everyone who helped out in any way during the season.

  • Rotary raises $2,000 for local food pantry

    On behalf of every member of the Carrollton Rotary Club I express my sincere thanks for the community support and generosity shown at our first pancake breakfast benefit for the Carroll County food pantry.

    When Dennis Goff brought to our attention recently the dire need for food items at the pantry, there was no doubt that we would respond with a plan to serve our almost famous pancakes.
