  • Rotary raises $7,000 for scholarships at event

    On behalf of every member of the Carrollton Rotary Club, allow me to express my sincere thanks to the following businesses and individuals for their support of and participation in our annual Scholarship Golf Scramble at General Butler State Resort Park Sept. 14. 

    Early estimates indicate that more than $7,000 dollars was raised that will be awarded at the end of the school year to deserving college-bound seniors.

  • Teamwork made Senior Event another success

    The 2011 Senior Event, “Vegas at the Point,” held Thursday evening at Point Park was again enjoyed by many senior citizens from Carroll and surrounding counties. We wish to thank the hard work of the planning committee – from attending numerous planning meetings to organizing everything, and to building, decorating and setting up for the event in the days before and the day of the event. This year’s planning team included Rhonda Welch, Penny Maiden, Mike Humphrey, Michelle Goff, Vicky Cayton, Susie Raybourn, Stacie Hendricks and me.

  • National Guard unit thanks community

    We greatly appreciate the cordial support the great people of Carroll County and its organizations provided to the Kentucky Army National Guard. Your gracious donations allowed our Carrollton-based Kentucky National Guard Unit to raise funds that directly benefit our soldiers and their families. Your dedicated support of Kentucky’s brave soldiers represents your organization well. I assure you that your affection means a great deal to every soldier and your actions do not go unnoticed.

  • Girl Scouts say ‘thanks’ for support of program

    The Girl Scouts of Carrollton would like to say thank you to all the businesses and community people who donate to us and support us throughout the year. But one in particular we would like to tell how much we appreciate is CC Downey with Fun Zone Inflatables and D.J. business. 

    Ms. Downey donates without any questions whenever we need anything. She is very efficient as well as loads of fun.

  • Soccer infraction mention draws fire

    I’m writing to express my dismay at The News-Democrat’s singling out Carroll County High School varsity soccer player Erick Lewis, in the most recent issue of the paper.

    It was unnecessary to devote two entire paragraphs to Erick’s infractions. Unless the paper is committed to singling out every player, in every sport, for every infraction, then it was wrong to do this to Erick.

  • Mayor thanks state for cleaning Hwy. 227

    If you have driven on Hwy. 227 from Highland Avenue to Gap Hill recently, you will notice that the local state highway crew cleaned the median and removed all of the loose concrete.  This is something that had been needed for some time, and I thank them for their prompt attention to this matter.

  • CCAS hosts member meeting Sept. 1

    We at Carroll County Animal Support are very excited about all of you who have recently stepped up to the plate and joined our “cause for the animals.”

    On Thursday, Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m., we will be hosting our first full membership meeting at the Old Court House, second floor meeting room. For only a $5 membership donation you will receive both a membership card and a folder of information, including our brochure and program cards.

  • Poker run raises $5,200 for Christmas project

    We would like to say “thanks” to all those involved with the Community Christmas Project Poker Run. Without businesses donating, people selling and buying raffle tickets, riders and people donating their time, there is no way we could have raised $5,200.50 for our community.

  • Date set for English school reunion

    Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, marked a memorable date for the small community of English, Ky. —the first English Grade School reunion.

    It was so well received and attended that the first Saturday in October was established as the date for subsequent annual school reunions.

    Last year saw the event in combination with a bazaar atmosphere where homemade items and crafts were available for sale.

  • Program offered glimpse, taste of Ireland

    Just to let you know what you missed if you did not attend the “Meet The Artist” program on Aug. 8 at Carroll County Public Library. It was a delightful display of Ireland and Irish countryside. A special display was done by Sam Burgess of “Forty Shades of Green.”

    Homemade Irish scones and Irish apricot jam, fruit, bagels with cheese spread and lime punch was served.
