  • Twelve want caretaker hired at county shelter

    Editor:

    We, the undersigned, urge Judge Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson and our magistrates to fund the position of a qualified part-time caretaker at the Carroll County Animal Shelter. Furthermore, we ask that funds be provided to run the shelter in a clean, caring manner, keeping dogs and cats healthy while at the shelter promoting adoption.

  • County shelter should be used to adopt its animals

    Last week Carroll County Animal Support Director Tammie Crawford wrote about the circumstances at the Carroll County Animal Shelter on Boone Road. Tammie is correct that the animal shelter should have regular hours of operation that would allow the public to visit the facility to possibly adopt a dog. Many dogs are euthanized now that could find good homes if there were regular adoption hours advertised to the public.

  • Support helps make tech school career event a success

    On behalf of the staff and students at the Carroll County Area Technology Center, I would like to thank all of community sponsors and participants that made our annual CCATC College and Career Day a success.
    This is the second year we have held this event for our students during Career and Technical Education Week and been able to provide such a great opportunity to our students, because of the generosity of our community.

  • County doesn’t try to save its animals

    I went to the shelter today. First time since before Christmas. It is a depressing place, to look at all the pitiful faces that seem to say to me, “Please help me get out of here.”
    As I look at each dog and try to decide who I can get out and who I can’t, it just breaks my heart. Why do I have to do this? Because if I can save just one, then I have given it a chance to be someone’s beloved pet. I can only hope that the others forgive me for not choosing them.

  • What happened to progressive thinking?

    Again, I find myself disheartened in the lack of progression.
    A very dear and old friend of mine has recently begun to turn over a fresh new leaf of life and I couldn’t be more proud. Although there have been a few bumps in the road, she remains positive through encouragement that she will soon succeed in societal demands.

  • SNIP clinic to return to Carroll County

    I want to take this time to let the community know that Carroll Co Animal Support will be starting our low cost spay/neuter clinics back up this month.
    This year, we are changing the way we will register clients for the clinic. We will be at the county library on Wednesday, Feb. 9 from 10 a.m. until noon and Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. registering everyone. We will also require a deposit on that day. Last year, we had several people to sign up and then not show up.

  • Beware of once friendly chat site on the web

    I am writing in regards to a website that I see teens using often to video chat. I want parents to be aware of the danger. It is called Omegle.


    This chat website at one time was OK for teens to use. Now every other chat is pure porn. This is something you do not want your kids on.


    I watched in horror from chat to chat that they were performing lewd behavior.


    Ask your teens about the site, see what they have to say about it and make sure they are aware of the dangers.

  • Labels and extreme politics harm nation

     A Farewell to Arms? Please....


    I have long felt that a two party democracy has been crippling progress for America’s future for several decades now. Some call it necessary as a system of checks and balances, but I disagree.


    It has gone from Democrats and Republicans to the catch labels “right-wing Conservatives” and “liberal nut jobs” and now finally to “Tea Partiers” and “communists.”
