  • Cartmell staff earns praise for caring

    We hear such negativity in this community abouthow our town is known for drug abuse and drunken drivers.

    I would like for everyone to know how lucky we are to have such a dedicated team to educate our children and grandchildren.

    I would like to say a big thank you to Doug Oak and staff at Cartmell Elementary School.

    These people are truly caring and dedicated to helping our small ones achieve a good education.

  • Volunteers thanked for National Guard dinner

    In December 2012, our National Guard armory sat silent while the members of our local guard unit answered the call of duty once again and this time in Africa. This past weekend on Dec. 7 – a day we all should remember, Pearl Harbor Day – our local armory was filled with the return of the men of the unit, their families and volunteers from our community.

  • Goodbye to Kenya

    I enjoyed my five months stay and ministry in Kenya. I am leaving for India on December 10.

    It was a challenge for me to get out of my comfort zone in Kentucky and stay in Kenya with minimum facilities and lots of hardships. I am glad the good Lord kept me safe in his powerful hands. Prayers and encouraging notes that flew from Carrollton to Kenya were very helpful to get through everything. Though I lost some weight I never got sick. Thanks be to God!

  • Education will again be a top issue for lawmakers next year

    Our schools may still have a couple of weeks left before Christmas break and the end of the fall semester, but some of the latest “report cards” on Kentucky’s academic progress have already arrived.

    Perhaps the most well-known of those came in early November, when the National Assessment of Educational Progress gave its latest breakdown of our fourth and eighth grade scores in reading and math.

  • Champions thanks county for donation

    I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Carroll County Fiscal Court for its generous donation to Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County. We appreciate the continued support throughout the years and are honored to have them on board to help diminish drug use in Carroll County.

    We – the coalition and staff – are happy to have the county officials on our side to fight this epidemic. We are forever grateful.

  • Smoke-free laws protect everyone’s health

    Some people claim that smoke-free laws are the government’s infringement on private-property rights. Business owners may privately own their business, but by inviting the public in, they are required by the government to ensure safe food and clean water.

    Similarly, government has the responsibility to regulate the indoor air we breathe, free of secondhand smoke pollution.

  • Thanks to all who contributed to food drive

    A BIG thanks to the community for another outstanding Scouting For Food Campaign. This past Saturday, about 60 Scouts and community volunteers braved a cold morning to hit the streets and pick up food, bring it back to the food pantry, count, sort and finally put it on the shelves – a big undertaking. The results were outstanding – 4,589 items collected.

  • Scouts to collect food donations Saturday

    It’s Scouting for Food time again. Local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts and a host of others representing various groups will hit the streets Saturday, Nov. 23, to pick-up your donations to the Carroll County Food Pantry. Please have your items in bags placed in a high-visibility location outside your home by 9 a.m.

  • Law helps get loved one into treatment

    Have you heard of “Casey’s” Law? Casey’s Law was established to provide a means of intervening with someone who is a substance abuser and is unable to recognize his or her need for treatment due to his or her impairment.

    The law allows a parent, relative or friend to petition the court for treatment on behalf of their loved one, even if he/she is over the age of 18.
