• Expanded summer reading program successful

  • Volunteers, items needed at Carrollton Manor

It is not often I write a special letter for someone, but I recently have been visiting with some of the residents of the Carrollton Manor. One in particular has touched my heart tremendously. Upon visiting her this year, I noticed several things. The place could use a bit of sprucing up.

There is probably 30 to 40 residents in need of nurturing of the soul. You can feed a person; but they need some things to be proud of. I understand from my conversation with Mrs. Melissa Tucker, administrator, they do have activities but not enough, really.

  • Senior housing options exist in Carroll County

This letter is written in response to the P&Z Comprehensive Plan Survey results published in the paper on Aug. 18. We at Fairview Place found it interesting that 13 percent of the respondents were age 65 and over, but 26 percent of the people who replied regarding the housing section of the survey considered availability of senior citizen housing a problem. One of the top ten land uses encouraged was a need for senior/assisted living.

  • Donations sought for hospitalized child

I am an employee at Webster Drugs and my co-worker is Shaman Webster. His 18-month- old son, Christian, is sick. In this regard, I am knocking at your door for any donation you would like to make that may help Christian’s recovery. There is an account at First National Bank in the grandfather’s name, Chuck Webster, in care of the child, Christian Webster. All you have to do is stop by the bank and make your donation. You can even do it from the drive through.

  • Gibsons back Richardson in Owen election

We would like to encourage the people who are a part of Owen County Rural Electric, to vote for Charlie Richardson as their Director of District I.

He is a person knowledgeable of the electric business, and had a power line construction business for a number of years.

As a life long resident of Owen County he has also been a tobacco and dairy farmer and knows what hard work is.

We have been friends of his since early school days and know him as a caring person who will go out of his way to do you a favor.

  • CFD collects $12,200 for Crusade For Children

Through our fundraising efforts this year, we raised $12,200 for the WHAS Crusade For Children. This is another record year, for the third year in a row. We want to thank those who help us accomplish this feat: Westside Fire Department, Worthville Fire Department and the family members of the firefighters who helped us with the door-to-door and roadblocks. Also a big “thank you” goes out to Subway, Hometown Pizza, Snappy Tomato Pizza and Papa John’s Pizza who donated food to feed those doing all the door-to-door walking.

  • Bond running for Owen Electric board

Owen Electric is holding an election for its board of directors. Members can vote at any Owen Electric office during office hours between now and close of business on June 15, or at the annual meeting in Grant County on June 17. My aunt, Ann Bond, is running for re-election to the board. She has served three terms and would like to continue on the board. She would appreciate your vote at any Owen Electric office or at the annual meeting. Any member, or their spouse, of Owen Electric can vote. Thank you.
