  • Family thanks those who helped with Poker Run

    We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the many local businesses and friends who donated to the William Meadows Poker Run and Hog Roast.  We would like to especially thank the band, Kentucky Chrome, for donating their time and Don and Joanie Smith of DJ’s Tavern for letting us use their facility.  Without all the time, love, and support, the Poker Run and Hog Roast would not have been such a success.

  • Colorado tragedy should not be politicized

        Shame on you, Jarrett Boyd, for jumping on the bandwagon of people who want to politicize the tragedy in Colorado.  And yes, using the phrase “gun control” makes it political.  Now is not the time for political hand-wringing.  It is time to allow the families of the victims of mass-murder to grieve, and offer the survivors our sympathy and support.

    No one has the right to irresponsibly damage and destroy a stream of water.

    The fish, plants and all the living creatures of the creek come together to form a beautiful ecosystem designed by the creator of all nature.

    There is damage and destruction occurring at Mill Creek in Owen County, Ky.

  • Special Olympics thanks local support

    Carroll County Special Olympics has had a very successful 2011-12 sports season. In the fall we participated in bowling, both at regional and state level. In January we went to Perfect North Slopes for Winter Games, competing in alpine skiing and snowshoeing. Track season consisted of competition at Area 4 Games at St.X High School which cumulated with Summer Games at EKU, the first weekend of June.

  • Fourth of July celebration a success

    The first annual Fourth of July Festival is history and, from all indications, was a success.  Despite the heat, somewhere between four and five thousand people viewed the fireworks display.

    I want to thank everyone who helped me with this event.  I will not try to include the names of those to whom I owe a debt to, but if you helped, you know who you are and I hope you will be willing to help again next year.  Thanks and God Bless you.

    Carrollton Utilities staff would like to thank local photographer Jim Fothergill for sharing his time and photographs with us. All the photos in the Water Quality Reports that were recently mailed to our customers were taken by Jim.  

    This was yet another example of how generous Jim is with his time in supporting the community plus an example of his photography skills.

  • Campground shouldn’t be for long stays

    I would like to express my opinion on long-term camping at the city’s Two Rivers RV Park.  I think it would be better to keep  the length of time at our new facility to short-term and not to let campers stay for six months at a time. We want it to stay like a campground, not a trailer park.
