We invite you to join us at the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in Carrollton. This special event is Friday, May 29 from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning at the Carroll County Fairgrounds, located behind Walmart.  Survivor registration begins at 6 p.m. under the tent by the stage.  There is no charge for survivors to participate, and all survivors will receive a t-shirt and medallion.

It appears that a liquid asphalt storage facility will soon be built on the banks of the Kentucky River, just outside Prestonville in Carroll County.

A Louisville company purchased property there and has jumped through the regulatory hoops that will allow construction to begin on the storage tanks and its barge facility on the river.

But there are many local residents upset with the plan to have barge-loads of liquid asphalt shipped here because of its impact on the rivers, our tourism industry and nearby residents.

Last week there was a letter to the editor from a person voicing his concern about the way a recent bid was handled by the city commission in Bedford.

First, I would like to thank the man for taking the time to exhibit his opinion because I am a city commissioner in Bedford. Personally, I believe the more people involved in our local government the better. After all, it is our community and each of us has a right, and even more a responsibility, to make this community the best it can be.
