  • Carroll youth baseball teams up with Bambino Buddies to share love for sport

Saturday morning my phone starts dinging, signaling an incoming text. But it does not ding just once, but 15 more times. By now you have to look or are scared to look to see what is going on. I look down and find that Larissa McKinney has sent a message and 15 pictures of the Carroll County 10U traveling team that had just completed a Bambino Buddy session with special needs children.

  • Support for Mikie’s Ride appreciated

    Editor:

We would like to thank The News-Democrat. We also would like to thank everyone for all the work they have done to keep the memories of Mikie’s Ride going.

Thanks to all the people who gave door prize donations, all the people who came to the ride, to those who made donations, Carrollton Lions Club, Herb Kinman Chevrolet and people who cooked the food.

We really just want to thank everyone for all their love and support to keep our son, Mikie Gividen’s memories.

  • Gibsons back Richardson in Owen election

    Editor:

We would like to encourage the people who are a part of Owen County Rural Electric, to vote for Charlie Richardson as their Director of District I.

He is a person knowledgeable of the electric business, and had a power line construction business for a number of years.

As a life long resident of Owen County he has also been a tobacco and dairy farmer and knows what hard work is.

We have been friends of his since early school days and know him as a caring person who will go out of his way to do you a favor.

  • Four part docu-series gives reasons why people need to find time to cook

In my mind, Summer Reading Program is synonymous with children’s programming. It is a huge component of what we do every summer. It is the one place we feel that we can step in and help the school system end the “summer slide.”

But this year, we decided to incorporate some adult and family programming. We could all stand to learn a little more about living a healthier lifestyle. There is so much information out there, and “healthy lifestyle” can mean so many different things. The obvious answer is exercise and diet. I wish it was that simple.

  • CFD collects $12,200 for Crusade For Children

    Editor:

Through our fundraising efforts this year, we raised $12,200 for the WHAS Crusade For Children. This is another record year, for the third year in a row. We want to thank those who help us accomplish this feat: Westside Fire Department, Worthville Fire Department and the family members of the firefighters who helped us with the door-to-door and roadblocks. Also a big “thank you” goes out to Subway, Hometown Pizza, Snappy Tomato Pizza and Papa John’s Pizza who donated food to feed those doing all the door-to-door walking.

  • Bond running for Owen Electric board

    Editor,

Owen Electric is holding an election for its board of directors. Members can vote at any Owen Electric office during office hours between now and close of business on June 15, or at the annual meeting in Grant County on June 17. My aunt, Ann Bond, is running for re-election to the board. She has served three terms and would like to continue on the board. She would appreciate your vote at any Owen Electric office or at the annual meeting. Any member, or their spouse, of Owen Electric can vote. Thank you.
