Scrap metal helps Troop 131 raise funds

Editor:

Carroll County Boy Scout Troop 131 would like to thank Gallatin Steel for including us in the distribution of proceeds from the sale of scrap steel collected during the recent community scrap recycling/clean-up day.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the scrap donations from the folks of Carroll and Gallatin counties.

In total, about 12 tons of scrap material was dropped off, either by the Carroll and Gallatin County troops or by the donors themselves. In the end, each Troop earned $1,350 that will be used for items such as dues, trips, equipment, supplies, etc.

Thanks again to all who contributed in any way.

Resident questions use of money on tree, library

Editor:

It is appalling for me to believe that we live in a town that makes a citizen buy a hundred dollar business license to rent one small house, and then read in the paper that the town commissioned someone to build a stupid-looking tree that cost $10,000. Then sat it in the middle of an already pretty little park. I don’t care who paid for it, the money still came out of someone’s pocket and I can’t see why the two companies that paid for it couldn’t have put the money to better use, such as a donation to the library, which is costing the tax payers a fortune.

And while I’m on the subject of the library, I have been in there three times since the renovations have been completed. There was one patron in there the first time I was there; there were two children in the children’s department the second time I was there; and the third time I was there copying something, there was one library employee there.

Now our little library was furnishing this community with books and everything it needed just fine before these new renovations were added that will cost the tax payers a fortune.
Every time I think of the added tax to the library I get very unhappy, and when I see that tree, I get thoroughly disgusted.
