Carrollton Police Department Friday arrested 29 local business owners and politicians and placed them in the old stone jail. But it was all for a good cause.

The people were charged, booked and photographed in the jail yard as they tried to raise at least $50 in bail money to be donated to Carrollton’s Relay for Life project. The Carrollton Police Department team raised $2,145 with the fundraiser.

“We wanted to earn the money for our team, because we spend all year getting donations for ‘Shop with a Cop,’” Penny Maiden of the police department said.  “Organizations and businesses are very generous with our Christmas project and we didn’t want to ask them again. The entire county is very involved in the Relay for Life program and we tried not to overlap as people gathered up their ‘bail money.’”
