Carrollton man arrested in South Dakota rape case BY SHARON GRAVES Brent McMahon, of Carrollton, was arrested May 7 in Ipswich, S.D. on charges of third-degree rape, a class 2 felony. If convicted, McMahon could face up to 25 years in the state penitentiary, a $50,000 fine, or both, according to South Dakota States’ Attorney Vaughan Beck. The charges stem from an accusation made against McMahon the weekend of May 3 and 4. McMahon had a court initial appearance Tuesday where he was expected to enter a plea of not guilty. The court in Edmunds County, S.D. meets only every other week and McMahon is being held on a $25,00 full cash bond. McMahon was convicted here in 2006, of unlawful transaction with a minor in the third-degree and served a year for that crime. McMahon was allegedly hosting a party at his home and served alcohol to minors, according to court records in that case.
