LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Students benefit from “ripple effect”

To the editor,

Thank you to everyone who donated aluminum cans to the Trimble County eighth grade science class for their trip to St. Louis May 19. I am humbled by the response.

Thank you to Lee Bott, who donated a whole truckload, which brought $140.

I will not know everyone who donated, so please know you are appreciated. Just think what you and these students are doing for the environment.

A special thank you to Eric Drake for hauling the cans to Prestonville Recycling, owned by Cecil Carter. Thank you to Mr. Carter, who has stayed open late and contributed a little extra to assist the efforts of our students.

The students are about halfway to their goal for the trip. Mrs. Drake is positive they can reach their goal, so she is extending collection of aluminum to May 17.

A ripple effect of blessings has occurred from this effort. The Trimble Banner printed my letter that was seen by the Madison Courier staff. The Courier interviewed Mrs. Drake and printed an article, which was seen by the St. Louis City Museum. The Museum contacted Mrs. Drake and has set up a special behind the scenes tour for our Trimble County students. Plus, the museum is granting free admission for the chaperones escorting our students to St. Louis.

As a community, we are teaching our future leaders, recycling does pay off.

Keep those cans coming to the Middle School.

Charlene Kelley
