Murder-suicide claims two lives

Police are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at Green Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

Carrollton Police Department reports that 85-year-old Harry Hoperton shot his wife in the head with a small caliber handgun and then shot himself in the head around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Security breach identified in rash
of debit/credit thefts

Authorities believe they have located a security breach that compromised the financial information of numerous local residents.

More than 100 Trimble County residents fell victim to the scheme, which began last fall and resulted in thousands of dollars in bogus charges to credit card and checking accounts locally.

Three planning and zoning members resign

Monday night’s Carrollton Planning and Zoning Commission ended with three members submitting their resignations and leaving the board without enough members to hold a meeting.

Chairman Bob Young, Mary Francis Mefford and Sandy May each resigned, effective immediately.

Cartmell greets ‘copters’ during flyover

Cartmell Elementary students and teachers got a thrill Thursday, May 1,as five Kiowa and one Blackhawk helicopters did a low fly-over the school. The military also got a thrill as the students held up a huge American flag in the yard.

Eric Popp, a fourth-grader at Cartmell was especially proud since his father was in the lead helicopter.
