Prestonville approves FY budget...

Prestonville City Commission approved the fiscal year 2013-14 budget on first reading during a special meeting May 6.

The budget shows anticipated expenses of $55,800, despite the fact that the city expects to receive the $137,855 in funding during the year.

The budget won initial approval with no comment from commissioners. It will be up for final approval on second reading at the May 20 meeting.

City leaders delayed action on engineering work for the river walk, saying they to provide input on how the project will look.

Mayor Gene McMurry brought a resolution to Carrollton City Council on Monday night that would authorize him to enter into a contract with an engineering firm to develop plans for the river walk. But council opted to table it for further discussion.

Lady Panther tennis wins NCKC

The Carroll County Lady Panthers clinched the girls team championship in the NCKC tournament, scoring 10 points. The boys tennis team finished in second place behind Trimble County with four points.

Behind the Lady Panthers was Walton-Verona with eight points, Trimble County with five points, Gallatin County with one point and Williamstown with zero points.

For the boys, Walton-Verona finished in third place with three points and Gallatin County finished in fourth place with one point.

The following decisions were rendered Wednesday and Thursday, May 8-9, 2013, in Carroll County District Court with the Hon. Elizabeth Chandler presiding.

Track third at HC meet

Ashley Srouder threw over 30 feet in shot put for the first time in her career at the Henry County meet April 30. Stevie Ogburn also had a record night, setting a new school record in triple jump with a jump of 29 feet 1 inch.

Cody Osborne and Michael Burns took first place in the 300-meter hurdles and 400-meter dash, respectively, both new person bests.

Both Carroll County squads finished in third place out of four teams. They competed against Henry County, Eminence and Shelby County.

Emerald Ash Borer has reached...

The presence of the Emerald Ash Borer, a serious invasive pest of ash trees, has been confirmed in Carroll County.

The Emerald Ash Borer can attack all species of ash in landscapes, forests and woodlots. The insect will attack stressed and healthy trees greater than about 1.5 inches in diameter.
