2013-14 Fiscal Court budget includes funds for Park to Park trails, river walk to Point Park

With a 3 percent pay increase to county employees and a 1.74 percent increase to elected county officials and increases in insurance premiums, the proposed 2013-14 budget presented by Carroll County Judge-Executive Harold “Shorty” Tomlinson still shows an overall increase of just $9,500 over this year’s budget.

The budget, OK’d on the first reading during a special meeting Friday, May 3, shows $10.85 million in appropriations balanced by the same amount in estimated receipts for the year, as required by state law.

Panthers fall 6-1 to Conner

Carroll scored first, but gave up four runs in the top of the fourth en route to a 6-1 loss to Conner Friday at home.

In the bottom of the first, Dillon Craig reached on an error, and Zakk Hicks brought him home on a double to center field. The Panthers had the bases loaded in both the second and third innings, but did not score, a key to the game, head coach Jimmy Ray said.

CCHS sports physicals May 14 at high school

Carroll County High School will hold sports physicals for all returning athletes from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. May 14 at the high school. The cost is $5.  Students must pick up a packet in the office in advance and fill it out before attending the physical and return it to Richelle Wheeler in the office.

Basketball camps to be held June 3-6

Carroll County High school boys and girls basketball camps will be held June 3-6.

The 2013 Carrollton Child Abuse Prevention Event held on April 26 went great. Champions for a Drug Free Carroll County was able to sponsor the event successfully thanks to a number of community organizations and individuals.

As the Executive Director of Fairview Place Senior Living in Carrollton, Ky., I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to my staff and volunteers who helped to make our Senior Derby Luncheon a success.  Approximately 100 seniors and guest, enjoyed the luncheon in our Courtyard on Wednesday, May 1.

Typically in my monthly column, I address legal issues or current topics in the legal field, but, with your indulgence, I am going to deviate slightly this month.

In case you did not know, this is National Teacher Appreciation Week. It is a week when we are to give thanks to those who give so much.
