The interim period is upon us. This is the time between the regular legislation sessions when committees meet jointly with both Senate and House members, we discuss issues that will likely come up in January, and begin to vet legislation drafts.

We also have the opportunity to schedule meetings throughout the state as we try to bring Frankfort to more citizens. Besides serving as chairman of the Transportation Committee, I am also a member of five other committees that require my attention on matters ranging from the budget to veterans issues.

Anyone who was on the campus at Carroll County High School last Wednesday will know this already. Carroll County’s 20th Community Outdoor Warning System is in and working.

The new, solar-powered warning siren is upgraded to be louder than the other 19, allowing it to be heard from the football field and track area all the way across the high school campus to Cartmell Elementary School for its first monthly test.

Everyone will take advantage of the summer heat this June. The toasty sun is something everyone has been looking forward to.

And even though we’ve gone through the harsh winter, it’s amazing how in spring, there are cool chills still felt in the morning. But soon this weather will pass, and the summer sun will take over the forecasts.

It took about 72 hours to drive the 1,800 miles round trip to drop off a truckload of donations from Carroll County residents to those affected by a deadly tornado that cut a swath through Moore, Okla., two weeks ago.

But it was well worth it – even the part where Tish and Harry Hatton had to drive their vehicles through a severe hail storm Friday night near Saint Louis, where another tornado also touched down.
