  • Carroll competes in Winter Olympics
    Carroll County Special Olympics participated in the Winter Olympics Jan. 25-27 at Perfect North, in Lawrenceburg, Ind. The following are the results: Michelle Barnes: First (Gold), 50 meter snowshoe race and second (silver) 25 meter snow shoe; Rhonda Burns: First (Gold) 100 meter snowshoe race, and first (gold) 50 meter snowshoe; Thomas Granger: First (gold) 100 Meter snowshoe, and third (bronze) 50 meter snowshoe;
  • Parks and Rec baseball/softball signups
    Signups have begun for 2015 Carroll County Parks and Recreation baseball and softball. The cost is $30 per registrant. Siblings living in the same household can register for $15 each. Children ages 4-16 can sign up. If a child is turning four in the 2015 calendar year, they are eligible to register. Register online at www.carrollcountygov.us/parks.asp (credit/debit card only).   • Top Sports Moments in 2014
    The Carroll County Middle School cheerleaders won first place in a competition at Beth Haven Christian School in Louisville in January. The Carroll County High School boys basketball team defeated Owen County, 42-39, Jan. 27, to win the 8th Region All ‘A’ Championship for the first time since 2005. Austin Crowell was named Tournament MVP. The team lost in the first round of the state All “A” tournament to Cordia High School Jan. 30, at the Frankfort Civic Center.

    Special Olympics Kentucky State Bowling was held Dec. 6, in Louisville, Ky. The results are as follows: first place, Zach Lynn, Rhonda Burns, Dylan Williamson and Damon Maines; third place, Mary Pyles, Wally Gross and Clint Smith; and fifth place: Amanda Hearn and Thomas Granger.

  • Younger legs take the alumni game win
    The Carroll County boy’s basketball team sponsored an alumni game Nov. 29 as a fundraiser for the program.  Eighteen former Panthers showed up to play in the game ranging from teams in the early 90’s to a member of last year’s team. The white team consisting of players before 2007 led 41-40 at the half before falling to the black team 98-58. Younger legs and taller bodies made a difference late in the game.
