    Isaac Smith, son of Pat and Donya Smith of Richmond, Ky. and grandson of Mary Kathryn Smith of Carrollton has been awarded a four-year baseball scholarship with Division I, at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Smith, a 2011 graduate of Madison Central High School in Richmond has been picked by coaches and media as the No. 6 player in Kentucky. He was chosen to play with the Kentucky All Stars in both 2010 and 2011. Smith plans to study engineering while at Bradley.

  • Golf scramble to benefit Crusade
    WHAS Crusade for Children will hold its annual golf scramble Friday, June 24, at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky. Cost is $45 per person for teams of four, and a fun-filled day of golf is planned, including free food and drinks, door prizes, a 50/50 split-the-pot raffle, a chipping contest, and more.   • June 4 golf scramble to benefit Lady Panthers’ basketball team
    The Panther Hoop Club is hosting a golf scramble on Saturday, June 4 at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky. Proceeds will benefit the Lady Panther basketball program. The shotgun start is at 2:30 p.m. The cost is $40 per player, with a discount available for Fairway Golf Club members. There will be four players per team. There will be prizes for the winners, and food and drinks provided after the round. A longest drive contest and a closest to the hole on Par 3’s contest also will be held.
  • 2011 CCHS Volleyball camp
    The Carroll County High School volleyball team is hosting camp June 20-22 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for incoming fourth graders and up at the high school gym. The pre-registration cost is $50 for all three days if received by June 12 or $60 at the door ($20 per day). Pre-registration information may be mailed to the high school at 1706 Highland Avenue, Attention: Kristen Arbinger, Volleyball.
  • 2011 Panther basketball camp
    Carroll County Panther Basketball camp is June 6-9 at Carroll County High School from 9 a.m. to noon. Those students, girls and boys, entering second through eighth grade may attend. Registration is $35 pre-registered and $40 the first day of camp. Basketball fundamentals both individually and in a team setting will be emphasized. The students will participate in teaching stations, lectures, competitions and games. Each participant will receive a camp T-shirt and certificate. Registration brochures are available at all of the Carroll County schools.
  • Ruffolo commits to play volleyball at Butler
    Brooke Ann Ruffolo, of Farmington Hills, Mich. has committed to play volleyball for Butler University in Indianapolis, Ind. This past season Brooke helped lead her high school team to the Michigan State Volleyball Finals and  received second team all-state honors. She is the daughter of Joe and Cheryl Ann Persall Ruffolo of Farmington Hills; the granddaughter of Margaret Ann Persall of Carrollton, Ky. and  the late Glenn Persall; and Angeline Ruffolo of Dayton, Ohio.
