  • Fall sports sign-ups and registration
    Soccer registration Carroll County Parks and Rec co-ed youth soccer league registration will be held July 18-29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Parks and Rec office. The league is for children ages 2-11 (as of July 31). Older children may be required to travel. The cost is $25 for an individual, $15 each for additional siblings, and $15 for those under the age of 6. Completed registration forms with payment may also be mailed to the following address: Carroll County Parks and Recreation, 440 Main St., Carrollton, KY 41008.

  • Youth soccer camp July 11-15
    Carroll County youth soccer camp will be held July 11-15 at the Carroll County Park. For U-6 players, camp will be held from 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. For U-8 and above, camp is from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost is $15 for U-6 and $25 for U-8 and above. Participants may sign up for camp the day of or pick up a registration form at the county swimming pool or the Parks and Recreation office.   • Oh Boy! Oberto to defend title at 61st Madison Regatta July 1-3
    This weekend marks the 61st anniversary of Unlimited hydroplane racing in Madison, and race fans will see 12 of the world’s fastest boats vie for the Lucas Oil Indiana Governor’s Cup, the first stop on the six-event 2011 Air National Guard H1 Unlimited Series schedule. The hydros will compete on a new, shortened 1.67-mile Bill Cantrell Memorial Race Course.

    Isaac Smith, son of Pat and Donya Smith of Richmond, Ky. and grandson of Mary Kathryn Smith of Carrollton has been awarded a four-year baseball scholarship with Division I, at Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. Smith, a 2011 graduate of Madison Central High School in Richmond has been picked by coaches and media as the No. 6 player in Kentucky. He was chosen to play with the Kentucky All Stars in both 2010 and 2011. Smith plans to study engineering while at Bradley.

  • Golf scramble to benefit Crusade
    WHAS Crusade for Children will hold its annual golf scramble Friday, June 24, at Fairway Golf Course in Wheatley, Ky. Cost is $45 per person for teams of four, and a fun-filled day of golf is planned, including free food and drinks, door prizes, a 50/50 split-the-pot raffle, a chipping contest, and more.
