  • 5K walk/run July 19
    Brittany Belcher of Carrollton is hosting a 5K Walk/Run Saturday, July 19, at the back entrance of General Butler State Resort Park. Funds will benefit her participation in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk Nov. 7-9, in Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas. Registration begins at 7 a.m., and the run/walk starts at 8 a.m. The cost is $25. 
  • 2014 Yellow Jackets sign ups
    The Carroll County Yellow Jackets Football teams will hold sign-ups from 7-8 p.m., July 22 and 24, at the County Park. Children ages five to 12 years of age as of Aug. 1 are eligible to play. For more information, contact Scott Rose (502) 523-6856.

    Carroll County Middle School football practice will begin on Monday, July 21, from 5-7 p.m. at the Carroll County High School Conditioning Center. Players MUST have physical form present.

  • Dixie Chixx capture 12U state softball championship
    Dixie Chixx head coach David Craig asked his team two questions at the beginning of the season: How will you handle failure? What do you want people to think about you when they watch you play or practice? He told them he didn’t want them to tell him the answers, just to show him on the field. The Carroll County girls responded in a big way, rallying to win the Indiana State 12U Babe Ruth Championship over the Fourth of July weekend in Corydon, Ind. The Dixie Chixx defeated Corydon, 12-8, Sunday in the championship.
  • How secure is Kentucky Speedway’s hold on its NASCAR Sprint Cup date?
    By Mark Story Lexington Herald-Leader Just four years after the Sprint Cup Series finally came to Kentucky Speedway, should NASCAR fans in the commonwealth be concerned about losing the long-sought Cup date? Noting the ample number of empty seats at Kentucky Speedway for the Quaker State 400, then harkening back to the Car-mageddon traffic fiasco in Sparta in 2011, Charlotte Observer motorsports writer Jim Utter raised the prospect that Bruton Smith’s Speedway Motorsports, Inc., might move Kentucky’s Cup date to Las Vegas.
  • CCHS volleyball hosts first alumni scrimmage Aug. 7
    Carroll County High School will host its first volleyball alumni scrimmage on Thursday, Aug. 7. The event will begin at 7 p.m. with the alumni squaring off against the Lady Panthers varsity squad and will conclude with an 8 p.m. game, alumni versus alumni. The games will follow KHSAA guidelines for varsity volleyball contests.
  • Registration for Parks and Rec soccer July 14-25
    Carroll County Parks and Recreation will hold youth soccer registration July 14-25 (Monday through Friday) from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at its office, located on the third floor of the downtown courthouse. Completed forms also can be mailed with payment to Carroll County Parks and Recreation, 440 Main Street, Carrollton, KY 41008. The program is for children ages 2-11 as of July 31. Older children may be required to travel. The fee is $25 per person and $15 for each additional sibling. The cost for U4 and U6 (children ages 2-5) is $15.
  • CCHS youth soccer camp July 21-25
    Carroll County High School soccer will host a youth camp July 21-25 at the county park soccer fields along Ladder Lane. Camp will be held for U4 and U5 children from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and for six year olds through eighth grade from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost for U4 and U5 is $15 and $25 for the older campers. For the older children, the first hour of camp will cover fundamentals like dribbling and passing. The second hour will feature situational play and one-on-one, two-on-two, and in the last hour, the children will break into teams and scrimmage.
