  • The Boys of Summer
    Babe Ruth, Major League and Minor League divisions held their championship games on June 23 at the American Legion Baseball Complex, located at Robert Westrick Memorial Park. The Carroll County Orioles won the Minor League division championship. The Trimble County Twins won the Babe Ruth division championship and The Owen County Athletics won the Majors division championship.

  • Michael Waltrip Racing, Aaron’s to honor UK men’s basketball championship at QS 400 race weekend
    SPARTA, Ky. – Michael Waltrip Racing (MWR) and sponsor Aaron’s, Inc., will honor the 2011-12 University of Kentucky NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship during Kentucky Speedway’s June 28-30 Quaker State 400 tripleheader weekend by racing a special paint scheme on No. 55 “Dream Machine” driven by Kentuckian Michael Waltrip and placing the Wildcats’ National Championship trophy on display for fans throughout the weekend.

  • Youth volleyball camp June 13-15
     The Carroll County High School volleyball team will be sponsoring a youth volleyball camp June 13-15 from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the high school gym. Incoming fourth graders and up are welcome to attend. The cost is $50 for all three days if campers pre-register by June 10. Otherwise, the cost is $60 for all three days at the door or $20 per day. Please specify which day on the form. Registration forms may be picked up at Cartmell Elementary, Carroll County Middle School or Carroll County High School.

  • Three top-10 finishes for Corbin at state track meet
    Seventh grader Malachi Corbin propelled the Carroll County Middle School boys track and field team to 18 out of 56 with his one-man-effort in Saturday’s KTCCCA Middle School State Meet held at Paul Dunbar High School in Lexington. Corbin placed 2nd in shot put with a new personal record of 42 feet 10 inches. The only athlete to finish with a better throw had to break a middle school state record to do so, head coach Joe Creager said in an email. Corbin was the only seventh grader to finish in the top 15.

  • Carroll County Middle School baseball takes the field
    The Carroll County Middle School baseball team is very young and inexperienced, but are improving day by day, said head coach Jimmy Ray. He said the purpose of middle school baseball was to teach the players fundamentals and to prepare them for high school baseball. This is Ray’s first year as head coach, but he has helped coach both the middle school and high school teams in the past. He also coaches a summer league baseball team.

  • Carroll County elementary track team competes in first meet of the season
    Fourth-grader Clara Tuttle and third-grader Kennedy Daigle were the top performers in the Carroll County Elementary track team’s first meet on Thursday, April 12, at Henry County High School. Head coach Joe Creager said elementary track is different from high school track in that athletes are allowed to participate in more than four events per meet, and the events are broken down by age group. The 4x100 meter relay also is both co-ed and across school and team lines.
