  • Panther golf returns four veterans, wants to win All ‘A’

    Four seniors will lead this year’s edition of the Carroll County High School boys golf team, and their coach has high expectations.

    “Our big goal is to win the Class A and go to the Class A state tournament,” third-year head coach Josh Mefford said. “I think we have a good chance of doing that this year.”

    The team will lean on seniors Levi Stephenson and Clint Burgess, who are the team captains, to post good scores on matches, Mefford said.

  • Meeting individual goals is main focus of girls golf team

    The Lady Panthers golfers look to continue their growth as individual players and as a team this season.

    With the graduation of Hannah McMahan, head coach Tamara Cady said she will look to senior Jadyn Bailey to step into the leadership role. Bailey, who is on track to graduate high school one year early, is always on the golf course practicing and is “super dedicated,” Cady said. “She’s constantly challenging herself. She has fun, but she takes [school and golf] very seriously.”

    The Carroll County High School soccer teams participate in British Soccer Camp July 28-Aug. 1, at the high school.

  • Ray named to regional All-Star team

    Carroll County High School baseball player Justin Ray was selected to play in the Sophomore East/West All-Star game. The game was held at 10 a.m. June 18 at Bryan Station High School in Lexington. A total of 32 sophomores from the state were chosen, two from each region. Those players will be put on opposing teams for the game. The team was picked from coaches in each region. The other player joining Ray to represent Region 8 is Garrett Lehkamp of Walton-Verona.

  • Burns, Corbin compete at state meet

    Two Carroll County High School track and field athletes competed at the KHSAA State Track Championship Meet May 24 at the University of Kentucky Outdoor Track Facility.

    Senior Michael Burns finished 20th in the Class 1A boys long jump event. His longest jump was 17 feet 3.25 inches.

    Freshman Malachi Corbin finished 24th in the Class 1A boys discus throw. His longest throw was 96 feet.

  • Baseball team honors players

    The Carroll County High School baseball team held its annual banquet May 29 at the high school. The following are the awards received by the players:

    Zakk Hicks - Team MVP, Cy Young (top pitcher), NCKC All-Conference Team and 8th Region All-Tournament Team.

    Jacob Wise - Team Captain, senior plaque and most stolen bases.

    Keifer McIntyre - Most quality at bats and senior plaque.

    Taylor Hill - Highest GPA and senior plaque.

    Austin Crowell - Highest GPA and senior plaque.

  • Panthers’ Regionals run ends in semifinals

    If you really want to know what happened in the baseball 8th Regional semifinal between Carroll County and Anderson County Tuesday night, don’t look at the final score.

    The two teams were deadlocked at one run apiece in the bottom of the sixth before the Bearcats took advantage of a Panther mental error and added a couple RBI singles to take a 5-1 lead and ultimately win by the same margin.
